Hello all,

Does anyone have any information regarding the University of Pittsburgh PM&R program? How it does for fellowships, what the program is like, what the training is like, etc? The interview day seemed almost too good to be true -- I went to all of the so-called "top programs," inc. the super six, and I don't think any program seemed as impressive as Pittsburgh. Anyone else feel the same way on interviews? And was it a facade or is this program the real deal?

I'm one the chiefs this year at UPMC so my opinion is biased, but for what it is worth 3 of us applied and got fellowhips this year-

I'll be with Dr Furman, another will be Dr Slipman and one of the other chiefs will be doing Peds in Cincy
Last year we had 2 people take fellowhips, one with Dr Malanga and another with Dr Cano in pottstown, PA
The year before that there were 2 fellowships one in TBI at UPMC (now associate program director) and SCI I believe at Kessler
The year prior there was a I believe 2-UC Davis pain (who is now one of our attendings) and MSK at Mayo

Feel free to contact me with any questions regarding the program-I am more than happy to answer any questions

I was also VERY impressed with the interview at UPMC. I have a UPMC Mercy interview coming this week. I know UPMC bought Mercy, so is Mercy also considered a "university program" and top notch like UPMC?? Or is it still considered "community"?? Please let me know!

As of right now Mercy is a separate residency program from UPMC's program. They have there own match and their residents do not rotate in our units nor do we rotate at theirs.

If you match into Mercy's program you are part of their program and not ours and vice versa, but both programs are now under the UPMC "umbrella" form what I understand.

hope that helps

As I wrote on another thread, at Pittsburgh they've got selling the program down to a science. Everything during the interview day is what it ought to be. Needless to say, I came away very impressed by Pittsburgh also.
