Let me guess, you go to University of Virginia...?
You can be confident it's NOT UVA, as the University of Virginia only has a single sanction for an honor code violation, and this one incident, as described, wouldn't likely meet the criteria for a charge of academic fraud. It would have been investigated, if reported, and almost certainly dismissed. If that uncited passage was blatantly passed off as their own conclusion, while clearly and intentionally copied from elsewhere, that would be a different situation entirely. It wouldn't matter if it was a honors thesis or extra credit homework assignment, academic fraud is academic fraud.
