Hey Guys,

trying to get a suit for my first interview. Well first off, I have to say that I dont wear suits often...last time was when I went for my highschool graduation...and Dad got it for me...so its not like I had a choice

but yes...I need a suit for the interview...and I dunno what to get.

1. Went to one store and the guy told me to get a plain dark suit (looks horrible and I aint gonna use that again) coz I need to look all formal.

2. The other place I went to said that I could get a suit with stripes that blend with the dark fabric...so that they are not visible really.

Which one is right? Do I need to make a fashion statement when I walk in 😀

3. We went to see Ralph Lauren suits today and my dad din like it...coz apparently the thing folds too up...like 4 inches under my collar. Is this the new fashion nowadays tho?

4. I think I need serious help and would like to extend my thanks, ahead of time, to anyone who'll help me out 🙂

There are tons of threads that discuss this so you can do a search but let me tell you one thing..

It really doesn't matter.. so long as you are wearing a suit and tie, you'll be fine.. I worried about this before my interviews and in retrospect i realized i thought about it far more than necessary. no one is going to notice your suit except for the other interviewees, maybe.. and obviously you dont need to impress them..

I had a black suit solid color shirt and tie.. i thought i would most likely buy a new, nicer suit after my first few interviews, when i had a chance..

I haven't and wont buy another suit. Just try to feel comfortable and confident. If you like the striped suit better, get it.. (just try not to look like Dr. Rey on the show "Dr. 90120"😀 )

Any type of suit will do so long as it doesn't look messy. Making a fashion statement isn't necessary at an interview if that's not the type of person that you are...plus fashionable suits cost a lot more than a regular run of the mill suit, and chances are you won't be using the suit a whole lot after the interviews except for a few rare occasions.

Personally, I like pinstriped suits that DON't just blend into the fabric or a pain one color suit. A one color black suit is probably what most people will be wearing at the interview. I think pinstripes that blend into the suit look messy and old.

I say if you're going to spend the money on a suit, get something you like and would want to wear again. Plus if you go to a school that requires you to dress nice to see patients instead of wearing scrubs, then minus the jacket and you have slacks, a button up collared shirt, and dress shoes.

Peronally I hate black suits w/ white shirts and like a blue or red tie. Reminds me too much of politicians. What are we applying to law school? Personally I think when the time comes, I'll go for a dark charcol suit w/ light pastel blue or light pastel green shirt.

i also agree - it doesnt matter as long as you look clean and know how to tie your tie (i have seen some pretty badly-tied ties on a couple interviews). I personally would go with a non-black suit because i think black is for funerals, but lots of guys have been wearing black so you definitely wont look out of place if thats what you choose.

most of the people you'll see at the interview will be wearing black/pinstripe suits. At first I felt weird wearing my gold + green suit, but after a while it wasn't too bad... no one ever brought it up

at one of my interviews...there were these two girls in reallyshort light gray skirt suits with really high slits and really tight jackets and really high heels...i was wearing flats and they were like STRIDING to be the first in the group behind the tour leader...quite funny.

but youre a guy so skirt suits shouldnt be an issue for you, haha

Like everyone else said, just look presentable. At one of my interviews, i saw this girl who wore a dress shirt with slacks. the probably was her slacks were not fitted, and her shirt was a bright blue color...very tacky...and her sleeves were way to short even with her arms at her side. her hair wasnt tied up or anything...she looked terribly sloppy, and if i were the interviewer...i guarantee you I would not have been impressed. Gl.

i'd recommend against pinstripes. you don't want to look too flashy, unless the stripes are really subdued. i'd recommend a dark grey suit.

I'm always rollin' in my brown suit. Haven't seen another one yet.

I saw a brown suit at my last interview and i thought it looked pretty good, the guy was one of the best-dressed there in my opinion

if you have a charcoal grey, navy or black suit, very very thin (i.e. real pinstripes) vertical stripes are just fine. When you start dealing with stripes bigger than the head of a pin (or a pen), then it starts to get less and less conservative and a bit more gaudy. I think pinstripes are just fine, in fact I think they look better more often than a plain color suit.

Pinstripes all the way! Suits are expensive so buy a nice one you'll wear again, maybe to a wedding or vegas or to a formal event in dental school. You wanna look good...go w/ pinstripes, the solid black suits are for funerals.

I wore a dark blue pinstripe suit to an interview and the dean of admissions commented on how sharp I looked...they'll remember a well put together applicant.

Any suit and tie is gonna look conservative enough as long as its black of dark blue so get some stripes, get some balls and you'll kick ass at the interview.

Heres a tip..wear a tie matching the school's colors.

Yeah, being a guy I would recommend NOT wearing a skirt...

And sure, it doesn't matter that much so long as you're comfortable but you can never be too conservative. A dark suit, white shirt, gold or red tie, and shined shoes are always safe and will be essential in your closet for future use. For me though, the most important thing was feeling comfortable.

meant to thank all of you guys for the responses...

I dunno if I said it in the first post but the stripes that the suit has is really really thin...you cant see it from a distance...You'd really have to rub against me to see it....the closer you come, the better it gets😀

But ye...I'll just have to decide soon time!

Mucho gracias everyone
