Plan of Action

Upward trend is a good sign. I would focus your 5th year on getting letters of recommendation.

Personally I would not set a definite date for your taking your MCAT. Register for it when your practice tests match what your target score is. Look up average MCAT scores for schools you want to apply to on the CIB.

MCAT Prep is good if you are bad at organizing your time. The best thing you can do is take as many practice tests as possible. Focus on your weak areas not what you are good at.

Good luck OP

Definitely agree with @getfat about the MCAT prep course... it's only helpful if you are the type of person that needs motivation, or someone to push you to stick to a schedule. Otherwise it's a complete waste of time and money. Look into purchasing a solid book set: Examkrackers is what I used.. there is also The Princeton Review (TPR), Kaplan, etc. Examkrackers is very good for people who already understand most everything (conceptually) and just need a refresh/review.

I think you are on a good timeline. If you can, maybe while you're studying for the MCAT, you could take an upper-level science class or two? Preferably one that will compound your MCAT studying (biochemistry & physiology will help you TREMENDOUSLY if you haven't already taken them!)

This summer I'm taking Orgo lab and Biochemistry so I'm hoping that will help. I'll probably take 12 credits in the fall to give myself time to study.

Those classes will definitely help! Most people take ~3 months of dedicated MCAT prep time (no classes).. so keep that in mind when you are planning your MCAT date. You do not want to have to go through that stress (financially, psychologically & otherwise) again. If you can do 12 credits and prep for MCAT simultaneously, more power to you, carry on!
