Hi...

I have a question that I couldn't find the answer to so I decided to post a thread. I took my MCAT last year and got a 26P (V=11, BS=9, PS= 6). yea, my physical sciences was terrible. anyways, i'm taking it again on July 8th and listed it as planned on the AACOMAS application.

My app's been verified and sent to schools, so my question is, once I submit secondaries and everything, are schools going to hold my application and not review it until they receive my new scores or are they going to review my app with the 26P and also look forward to seeing new scores? I'm wondering because my new scores would come around August 10 and I was hoping they would look at my app early in the cycle. thanks for any input.

oh...i guess i'll say my gpa and stuff.. sci=3.2, cumu=3.42. i know they're not good stats and probably need a 30+ MCAT to have a chance.

We are in like the exact same boat my friend hahah. Similar s/cGPA, and I'm retaking the MCAT on the same date as well. I'm also curious as to the response here.

Also, good luck on the exam!

We have the exact same stats!!! Except my cum is just a tad higher...like a 3.5 or so...but I got the exact same MCAT score as you the first time! and I retook it today...hopefully did better this time...just thought I would pop in and say hi. Good luck to us! In answer to your question, I know that allopathic schools hold the app until the new score comes in, so I am assuming osteopathic ones do the same but I'm not positive, sorry I couldn't help more!

If I was on the admissions committee , I would look at your app now and make my opinion on you based off of that. If I like you as an applicant, I'd hold on to your app and wait for the second MCAT. I'd also realize that most people score similar to what they got the first time. So, I would only hold on to your application if a 26 MCAT satisfies me.

Also, a 26 MCAT and a 3.42 cGPA is fine to me. I don't see why would need a 30+ MCAT to have a chance. Average DO matriculant entering in 2009 = 3.48 ugrad cGPA, and a 26.19 MCAT. That is basically what you have.

thanks for the quick reply. i was thinking maybe that's how some schools do it, hopefully it is.

I don't think I'd wait to turn the application in until after the second MCAT because earlier = better. If the OP waited until after they get their score on the 2nd MCAT, it'll be nearly September before the primary application is sent out to the schools.

On the AACOMAS app, there's a place to put your planned MCAT & date. I would go ahead and turn it in ASAP with that information. If the schools don't like the fact that you have a 6 in PS, they'll hold your app until they get the 2nd MCAT score.. Some schools may even wait until they receive your new scores before looking at your app. If that's the case, you're still in good a position because your primary application is done. Granted, if you don't do as well on the next MCAT, it could hurt you, but I say go ahead and turn it in as early as possible.
