Hi everyone, just a quick question for those of us planning 4th yr schedules and hoping to do away rotations. Which two months do the sizable majority of neuro interviews occur? Nov/Dec or Dec/Jan. I wanted to do an away rotation in Oct and Nov but am now thinking if Nov/Dec should be left for interviews and Jan for the other away. Any assistance for a puzzled 4th yr? Much obliged.

There was a thread on this topic at the end of last year that was helpful regarding this quesion. Hope this helps.

Main "season" is between Nov and Jan, minus some holidays. I am having a hard time actually showing up for rotations!

I had planned on doing most of my interviews during December-January and scheduled my time off accordingly. I submitted my application as soon as I could and started getting interview offers for November within a few weeks. It turns out most of my interviews are in November-December and I really did not get very many January offers.

PS-I've even had a few October and February offers, FYI

December-January will give you the most bang for your buck I think-you will probaly just start hearing back from most places early November.

I did most of my interviews in Dec and a few in Jan. I think doing the away in Oct/Nov should be safe.

What rotations would you guys recommend for 4th year electives? I was thinking of maybe critical care, neurorads, rheum, endo, and cardio? Any that you guys wish you had before residency or that would have been worth while?

I am a mere intern at the moment, but already I wish I had the chance to do a cardio rotation. Inpatient cards is fine with just a MS3 rotation in internal medicine and a Sub-I, but it is stressful when patients start doing poorly and you have to scramble to know what to do.

ICU would also have been nice.

If not mandatory at you school, I would think about an ER rotation as well. Easy, fun, diverse, and important.

Yeah I will definitely put inpatient cards and ICU on my list. Just want to get a few rotations under my belt before I hit PGY-I and actually have to be responsible for things going on and act like a doc. Yeah EM is required at my school, so I already have that taken care of. Have a couple of neuro rotations. Was thinking of maybe infectious disease? It seems like one of those specialties that you wish you had more experience in. I'm just not sure I could deal with 1 month of it. :meanie:
