I am a high school Jr. and planning for college. My scores are okay SAT's are at 1700's not high too high GPA varies from 3.5 to 4.0. I know its going to be hard to get into a 6-year program like at UOP. I guess what i am trying to get at is if i were to get my BS in BioChem and then go to a pharmacy school like UCSF, USC etc. would i have to do Pre-Pharmacy classes?

Many pharmacy programs participate in the PharmCas application. You can look at their website to research schools and their prereqs. So you can get your BS but you have to complete the required courses for the schools that you want to apply to. (Note: In case you didn't know, you do NOT have to have an undergrad degree to go to pharmacy school...as long as you have the prereqs finished)

ookay...so i figure about 8 years of school with getting my BS and PharmD school. So if i get my Pharm D say at UH Hilo would I be able to take the NAPLEX and CPJE over there and be able to practice in California? or do i have to go to school in California?

I believe when you are a pharmacist, you can practice anywhere in the country. All that's needed is a score transfer when you take the NAPLEX.

You would have to apply for licensing in CA and take their pharmacy law exam. May I ask why UH Hilo?

I figure that UHH was easier for me to get into then the UC's in CA and since they have the PharmD program UHH is looking better and better. Plus the cost of schooling is much cheaper too!

Just wondering why are you chasing after the BS? You can become a pharmacist in potentially 6 years or so rather 8, assuming you'd get into pharm school. So it would be 2 years prereqs + 4 years PharmD instead of 4 BS + 4 PharmD. Then there are 3 year PharmD programs too....

Anyway, 2 extra years seems like a waste of time/money imo.

I just figured the BS would help me for schools like USC who recommend that i have one before applying to their pharmD school. If i can get into a 6year program it would be great then i wont need the BS. is it possible for to go JC for two year to complete the pre-reqs and then PharmD school?
