I'm currently 26 years old, and I've decided to pursue a career in dentistry. I graduated in 2001 with a BA in sociology and a minor in computer science. I would still have to take ALL of my science prerequisites, which I plan to do at a CC. Approximately how long would that take to finish while still working full time? What is considered a good course load (2 or 3 classes per semester?)? Ive read some threads on this site saying that CC classes dont compare to classes taken at a university. If I take all my prerequisites at a CC, will dental schools look down on that?
As far as the upper division classes go (histology, microbio, etc), is it necessary to take all that are listed, or will taking one or two suffice?
I live in soCal and would be interested in applying to the schools in this state as my top choices. UoPs three year program sounds very tempting. Any opinion on the schools in CA in terms of competition, best clinical experience, etc? If anyone has done the DDS/MBA program, I would be very interested in learning of your experiences as well.
Thanks!!
