I was just going over some practice MCAT questions, and I encountered the following:

'[name] four phyla of plant divisions.'

Is this something I really need to know? I've been sort of ignoring plant biology and my main study book--the McGraw-Hill test prep book--doesn't seem to devote much time to it.

*Edit* I have found even more plant-related questions, such as naming the different tissues in plants and the different layers of leaves. The study cards are from the exambusters, a company whose reputation I am unfamiliar with (the cards were purchased under the 'well, even if htey don't help they probably won't hurt' logic on a whim).

So, should I disregard the botany questions?

Your problem here isn't so much what's covered on the MCAT, but using terrible study materials. You MUST get better books. Furthermore, YES bad books can hurt your MCAT score, not to mention waste your money.

For your question, plants aren't covered on the MCAT.
