Hey guys...so i just wanted your opinion on the issue. Okay...so i am going to be attending pharmacy school next year, and sooo excited! this summer, i will have 3 months off of school, and there is something that i have been wanting to do forever! rhinoplasty (aka..nose job). I hate my nose! i broke it when i was younger, and i always feel so uncomfortable and feel like everyone notices. i know this is very shallow and everyone will say that i need to be comfortable in my own skin, but i truly believe at this point that i will only be comfortable if i have this done! new school, new start is how i look at it! soo...i was thinking of using my student loan money to pay for this little procedure, however, everyone is telling me that I should absolutely not use my student loan money to pay for anything extra like this! i mean, i have heard of people using student loan money for buying cars, houses, etc...can't you use the money for additional things like that?? do you guys think that I should do it, or will i be soooo far in debt after school that this would be a really stupid idea??😕

I'd say go for it! You will be busy and working hard for the next 3-4 years so you ought to treat yourself to a little something while you still can. I am actually doing something similar (not for my nose tho 😀) for myself before I start pharmacy school at UCSD this fall so I can look as hot as all those other girls on the beaches of San Diego!

If this loan money is subsidized, I would think that is probably illegal. If it's a private loan, then I think it's OK. But you can only get so much money in loans. Are you sure this is the best use of it? I would hate for you to have to stop going to school because you maxed out your loan money on cosmetic surgery that you'll easily be able to afford once you've been working for a few years.

The problem is she won't have any fin aid until school starts, so she technically won't be paying for the actual procedure with fin aid money. You can charge it to a CC and then pay that off later with fin-aid money, at that point, all your funds become commingled so it's not really an issue of legality/illegality.

I racked up all sorts of charges school and non-school related on my CC over the summer and paid it off using loan funds...in the end it all came together as I racked up more charges during the fall that are school related (meals, etc...)

I wouldnt do that if i was you because you are increasing your burden. However, if you wana enhance your body so you could look more attractive in pharm school, you could go for it only if you are confident you would be able to pay back the loans.

If you are a girl, you might be experiencing lots of traffic when you start pharm school lol

I'd say go for it too. If it's not illegal like Confetti is saying, then using your loan money to pay for it is no big deal, just as long as you make sure that you have enough to pay for school!
I don't think it's shallow. When you look better you feel better and when you feel better you do better 🙂

I say go for it if its something you really want done. I really wish I could get my boobs done since I am onyl a 32B, but I have too much financial burden for that :/

You started that good thread about the best looking students, huh? You should do it to it. Self esteem is the most priceless commodity in the world, and if it cost you a few bucks to feel better about yourself and give you confidence....then it's a small price. Or you can just think your the ****, like I do and save yourself some money....lol. You better send me some pics though so I can give you my professional opinion....jk.

Sprinkles....how many pictures do you have of you lying on a bed? Thats a new one....and I feel really creepy right now for even noticing that. Owell, if the shoe fits I better wear it....lol.

Wow...

Anyhoo, my splurge would be to see an orthodontist or a cosmetic dentist and fix my teeth. Since I would fix a part of my body, I say go for it, OP.

ETA: But I don't know that using loan money would be wise. My "splurge" will come out of my grad school stipend. Be sure you know the financial ramifications of your rhinoplasty before you do it.

I don't think it's shallow, if your not comfortable then your entitled to do something about it. I got loans while getting my master's and I never had a stipulation that I couldn't use my student loan money for whatever I want. I actually put a down payment on a car with a student loan and I haven't been arrested LOL. Do what makes you happy, hey you only live once, there's no coming back so go for it!

The money would be better spent getting that boob job! 😛

She might have great boobs, then that would be an awful idea. Nothing worse than a girl ruining a good pair of breast by getting a boob job.

I think I'm the only person on this board that thinks using loan money for a nose job before Pharmacy school is a terrible idea...

No, I think this has the potential to be a terrible idea too... unless the OP is willing to make sacrifices to redeem the money they would lose to the surgery. A nose job costs $3,000-$8,000. First, figure out exactly how much you're going to spend. Can you save this much from your summer earnings? From whatever the difference is in the amount you saved and the cost of the procedure, do you have the will power to sacrifice that difference by downgrading your food, clothes, lifestyle, for the next year? If you're going to put yourself into debt from your nose surgery, I think it's a terrible idea. But, if you have the strong will power to stay afloat, I think you should do what makes you happy. No more new shoes, clothes, no manicures, no hair salons, no new phones, ipods, no movies, no bars, nada, until you're debt free. 😉

Save the money. Your nose looks fine to everyone. I think you worry too much. I have 1 eye is smaller than the other. Nobody really says anything to me. My nose is very low, and I do not think people care anyway.

i'd say go for it. The OP said he/she broke her nose when they were young. It's not like they're trying to morph their nose into a better looking nose. Just don't try looking like Michael Jackson though. I know a fake nose when I see one. Make it look natural. You will be going to pharmacy school for 4 years and it will be 4 years you will start making new friends. No one wants to know you by your crooked nose. It's your money, go for it but be wise about whether you will be fixing your broken nose or trying to change the shape of your nose to look like a model.

Only in America is this even possible. I do think it's a ridiculous idea. Maybe I'll take my loan money to Vegas and lay it all on red... the more I think about it, the more inappropriate this is. You don't need a nose job to live, nor do you need it to get a job or get good grades. I'm not sure how bad we're talking about here, but unless it's distractingly ugly (and it probably isn't, despite what the OP thinks) I think it's an excess and a waste, and that loan money is better off going to someone who will use it to eat.

If it's hideously, debilitatingly "ugly", lots of insurance carriers will at least partially pay for it (If it's hindering one's life).

but... I'm glad I'm not alone here.

You don't need a pretty nose to make friends, to be successful in school, or anywhere else besides a beauty pageant. Some could argue that you need to be pretty to land a prestigious job... but I think this would be more germane in the business world, not so much in the medical world (unless you're trying to get on House's team, LOL!)

This almost feels like a troll thread.

Yo if you F-ed up part of your face you might want it done too so you'd feel more comfortable in your own skin. I'm for the most part against plastic surgery but she said she broke her nose its not just vanity. If its broken I don't think there's anything wrong with fixing it. And to the person who said bigger = better - I'm gonna go ahead and recommend you get out more

I think OP should post pictures.

having plastic surgery on a normal nose to make it look better is one thing, but you have to remember that the OP is fixing a broken nose. If you broke your nose, wouldn't you want to FIX it?

I broke my nose in 2 places playing Rugby, and I am not getting plastic surgery to fix it.

I don't think a broken nose automatically means the necessity for plastic surgery, as a broken nose doesn't always look "weird" or different once it is set/heals.

Again OP should post pictures.

My buddy got his nose shattered they picked out tons of bone fragments but it looks fine. My point is maybe hers didn't heal right. But def ask about a boob job you might be able to get some kind of bogo deal.

We need the OP to let us know how bad his/her nose is, and how long it's been that way. Until then the discussion should be on hold.

C'mon, where's the money shot! Does it have a bump? Is it too long? What did that nose ever do to you anyway? We need photographic evidence of the crime!

Find someone who'll marry you despite the nose, then ask them what they think. Afterall, if it doesn't matter to them, why should it matter to you?

Just the other end of the spectrum, I guess.

If it's a self confidence issue, I would say go for it. There's nothing worth more than loving yourself. 🙂

ever thought about going abroad for the surgery? i have a few friends that did that.

other than that, go for it 👍

bad, bad idea! I always hear about horror stories when people do that.

Maybe the OP has a deviated septum as a result of her broken nose, and it hinders her breathing? Then insurance would def cover some, if not most of it.

I agree she should post pictures!

hahaha. this seems to have become the boob job thread.
Bigger=better= attractive= 40D= people not looking at your face when you talk.:laugh::laugh:

I think you should go for it. BUT what you need to ask yourself is:"Will I feel happier after my noose job?" If the answer is no, then you need to reevaluate whether you need the procedure.

I don't think anyone will be happy after a noose job. :meanie:

And by people who either don't know about the difference in Letters vs numbers or don't care. I understand going up 2 cup sizes, but increasing increasing your chest measurement 8 inches to do it.😕

My problem with this isn't the issue of whether you should do something you want to do for yourself. My issue is that you're using loans to do it. I think it is an inappropriate use of that kind of money, and it reflects poorly upon those of us needing loans for tuition, books, and rent.

I think we've clarified that it's technically impossible for her to use the loans for the nose job as the funds become commingled in the fall.

I wouldn't use the money for plastic surgery unless its really hindering you aka breathing or something like that.

Things happen. Your car might break down, house needs repairs, apartment fire, renter's insurance (even for your dorm room), health emergencies, family emergencies. I would save that money just in case something happens and get the plastic surgery if you really feel like it after you graduate and start making money.

😱 I got my boobies done and it was the BEST thing I ever did. But it was paid for outright.. While I think its irresponsible to get elective plastic surgery when you can't afford it, I do know someone who got her boobs done with her school loans and the interest rates are so much lower than the standard plastic surgery loan/cc rates that it might be something to consider. I would caution you NOT to cheap out on the surgeon you choose...rhinoplasty can be screwed up very easily, its worth paying a premium. In New York, this is 10-15grand which is nuts but at least you wont look like Michael Jackson! Good luck!

haha..well this thread has kinda gone all over the place🙂 and my boobs are just fine😀no change needed there...although i don't expect everyone to understand...i do believe that the haters of my idea would think differenly if it were them...there is a bump on the top and i have a severely deviated septum..and i wasn't going to just use all student loan money..i plan to work all summer and use the majority of that..if i can get my payment plans low enough, i might be able to just work every summer and use that money to pay it off in intervals..but incase i don't have enough, i thought i would have a little extra in loans that i could use to pay off the rest..and although i could post pictures..i don't think i'm gonna do that🙂 but really, you guys don't spend you extra loan money on...bars/clothes/shoes/etc?...kinda the same thing..the bar-more unnecessary than this nose job....but, thanks for everyone who supports! i really appreciate you all having an open mind!

Don't do it! All natural FTW!

Err, right to the OP, if they are basically gonna fix it back to what it was supposed to look like before it got broken, do it.

I'm not one to talk about using student loan money for other purposes, cough, Stage 2 APR Performance Chip, cough, Cold Air Intake, cough.

My personal opinion, I think it's a bad idea. As a student, your number one priority should be your studies, not your nose ... or your chin, or your boobs. Especially if it's going to be coming from your educational funds. You can worry about that after you graduate - that's a "fresh start" there too.

But yanno, this is your personal decision, so good luck with whatever you decide. You know yourself best, do what will make yourself happy.

I say go for it. Do what makes you happy and looks matter more then anything in my opinion so I would do it without a doubt. 👍 Just look at Ashlee Simpson...she look like crap before her nose job.
