If we have interviewed well in advance of December 1, should we expect to hear one way or another (in, out, or waitlist) from ALL those schools around Nov 30/Dec. 1. Can they put you in a "not yet decided on" list?

No, chances are you will not get a simultaneous input from all the schools you visited. A lot of the schools made it very clear that their admissions process is a rolling one, so they might call you Dec. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so forth, or might even place you on the waiting list. I'd advise taking it easy and not push yourself into a corner by anticipating too much.

i think you will hear something regardless if you interviewed before dec 1st.

Schools are not obligated to respond on Dec 1st. It's just that the earliest that they can accept you is the 1st. They may never respond to you at all.

Last cycle I didn't hear anything at all until February, when I was waitlisted. I didn't hear anything after that, meaning I didn't know I hadn't made it for sure until about July.

I agree with everyone: do your utmost to treat Dec. 1/Nov 30 as just another day! That said: good luck to everyone!

That is the saddest story I've ever heard. I'm so scared now.
