We do not know if this is because more jobs are available or if the site is becoming a more popular venue to post job ads.

I dont think that total job openings available was ever, even back in the 90s, the entire problem. A big chunk of the problem has been that these jobs basically suck, they are either temporary, involve a revolving door of new lower paid staff every 2 years or otherwise result in permanent slavery.
