Ever since that d@mn MCAT score came out the other day the board is being spammed with every variety of "what are my chances" threads, with pretty much everyone asking the same thing. If you are trying to get into medical school, read some literature about applying and check out medical school websites; it is easy to find both their average acceptance MCAT scores, GPAs, and the minimums considered for both of those categories. As for GENERAL numbers here some for many DO schools:

Average ACCEPTANCE MCAT: 24-27 (avg. writing about O-P)
Minimum MCAT considered: usually no less than 22-23
Average ACCEPTANCE GPA: 3.3-3.6
Minimum GPA: sometimes around 3.0, some accepting 2.75+

Just read up on some stuff and you'll know if you should apply. For example...do NOT apply with a 17 MCAT, do not apply with a 2.3 GPA. I know there are variances in the numbers I posted above, but those are just the general numbers across the board.

I do not hope to ruin anyone's hopes with this thread or to discourage anyone as I really hope everyone follows their dreams and gets into some school here or there, but please put your "chance" questions in the "Official Chances thread" or whatever its called originated by some genius probably feeling the same as I do. If you have bad numbers, no fear, just work on it and apply again. I know time and another entire year FEELS like a ton, but seriously, most of us are young and another year isn't that bad. I didn't get into school until my THIRD try, and now when I compare my current application to those past ones, I totally understand why I wasn't accepted.

Good luck everyone!:luck:

When do Podiatry schools start accepting applications?

LOL!

Chuck Norris breathed on my application page before I hit submit and my GPA became 9.0!; he even took my pci network card out and licked the connectors as well as both ends of my RJ45 (network) cable when i submitted my secondaries and checked my MCAT....what are my "CHANCES" at DO schools now....pretty sweet chances eh?

I mean seriously....Chuck Norris

Writing another thread about it isn't helping at all either ... 😎

Hence Why I started the offical page just like in pre-allo. Now the mods can merge all threads of the sort in ONE place so they don't have to bother people like you who already know everything about the process 😉

Remember we were all a n3wb at one point 😀

some posts aren't needed I agree and can even add to problems... i notice you have 30,000 posts

Eh, get used to it, the servers can handle it! SPAM AWAY!! As much as I hate reading the titles about your uncles, sisters' chances, people want to know. And, the cool thing about reading those titles is that I don't have to even open them to ignore them; I already know the amount of crap contained within. Scopd did a whole thing last year about how SDN posting hasn't changed in... I believe he set his sites on 8 years prior? Anyways, it happens every year, we all just got used to it. Also, if you find some people that are really hardcore about finding an answer; i.e., they post in six or seven different threads with, "what are my chances with a 4.0 and 44 T MCAT, I think I am boned!!" That is when you are allowed to tell them that their life means nothing and that they should just end it now with Mr. Toaster and Mr. Bubble bath. At least, this is what I do, and I rock 😍

I think we can officialy changed that figure to NINE years now. On the tenth anniversary you get a gold watch...wait, that's what happens when you retire-- Never mind!

I think trolling is about to skyrocket as well. I'm waiting for the "I got a 18J MCAT and a 2.4 GPA, but I think my personal statment really turned some heads, will any DO school take me."

a thread for "what are my chances?" is a great idea. but some prefer to start their own threads because they get more responses. many people who complain about the threads are guilty of posting them themselves when they were n00bs. i think it's annoying to go through these threads to get to the relevant ones, but you don't have to open them. and i was a scared pre-med only a few months ago...

Any threads that are started will now be merged with the one thread supposedly so I wouldn't worry about this issue.

👍 Everyone learns how to find their answers on this board at sometime, some more than others 😀

AMEN!

You are preaching to the deaf... Asking for no more "chances" threads is like getting ppl to stop asking "should i take a prep course" in the mcat forum..

this too shall pass!
