I am a second time applicant. Overall GPA 3.4 and sc gpa 3.0.
400 + hours of shadowing at a clinic

DAT TS21/AA21/PAT20

California resident. UCLA graduate with B.S in Biology.

I took my DAT on aug 18th but I had sent out my applications in June. I sent them to many schools because I wasnt sure how I will do on the DAT.
I feel comfortable with my score and I am seeking a little advice from you.

1. I have 23 schools, are my stats good enough to afford to reduce these schools to maybe like 15 for the secondary apps and withdraw my app from other schools?

2. Could you make suggestions of schools you think i should take off.

So far i am thinking I will scratch off VCU, USC and Louisville.

My priority is being close to my home (USC i will take off because of their system) and going to a school which has a good ethic diversity.

So could you make a few suggestions please?🙂

Arizona

If you're not a minority I would remove Meharry. Otherwise, leave it there. So far as I've heard Meharry favors African Americans and Asians. Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but does Marquette favor minorities as well?

Marquette does not give special favor to minorities

Well I am from India----its asian--i dont know if that counts for Meharry. Plus I was looking and I realized I had paid the secondary fee for a few schools already and Meharry is one of them 🙁

ANyways---any more suggestions???----

Indiana, Louisville USC and VCU

I would take out:

Indiana
Meharry
UNLV
Ohio

You can leave the others if you want. I think you'll be spending your money wisely on the other places, since the ones above either favor In-State residents, or whether you're a minority or not.

The rest is up to you to leave in or out.

Personally I would leave in
USC (since you're in state, you'll have a better chance at getting an interview - so if you don't get in anywhere else, you can always fall back on this safety school)

Louisville - can't hurt to apply. They have a good reputation, and with your stats, I think you can get an interview. Unless you're not looking to live somewhere in Kentucky. It's all up to you.

VCU - They have a pretty even ratio of In-State to Out-of-State matriculants. You can increase your chances to apply. Won't kill you to try. Plus, it's a great location, and a great school too.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

Why didn't you apply to UCLA dental school?

I hadnt before because i thought my gpa is pretty low. And i wasn't sure what I will get on DAT. But I think I will now---i will send my application tonight. 😀

Thanks, I think I will take your suggestion and leave USC in.

I am still not sure about Louisville and VCU though. Indian is definitely off the list now. Meharry I have no choice I had already sent my stuff to them before i took the DAT same for Ohio.

Thanks for you suggestions 😀

Nova filled slots for pre Dec interviews and Case is not far behind. So your invites will def will be on the later date if you get any. People still get in from post Dec interview of course but chances will be different.

If I were in your shoes, I would apply to:

Boston University
Case
New York University
Nova Southeastern University
Temple University
The Ohio State University
Tufts University
University of Michigan
University of Nevada, Las Vegas
University of Southern California
University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry

That's just me though. I am basing my decisions off of my standards, which are probably different than yours. Just my 2 cents.. Check your schools for out of state acceptance rates and such.

hmmm I actually think this is a quite good list. Thanks.
I have already sent my money to some schools for secondary apps before i took the DAT so I wont withdraw from there---what is the point I already paid them.

But for others I think I will pick schools from this list mostly.

Thanks👍🙂

I did do a solid research about out of state acceptances, gpa and dat requirements and I have that with me. I scratch of the ones on the bottom of my list first.

The location of the school and the ethic diversity in its student body is a big factor for me. I am asian indian and I would love to go to a school which has atleast a few indians.
