Dear SDN,

How are you doing? I hope that you are doing well. I am so sorry to bother you guys, but I was wondering if you could please help me. When I first sent in my primary application into AADSAS (many months ago), they asked me to list down the courses that I would take for Winter and Spring 2014. My university had not even released the course schedules yet, and I had no idea what courses I would take in the winter and spring quarter. (I sent in my AADSAS application on June 21, 2013, in the first month of summer).

So a few days ago, my registration window opened for my winter classes, and I realized, that I could not sign up for the 4 classes that I said I was going to take for winter. In other words, the classes that I said I would take on June 23, 2013 (when I sent in my AADSAS application) are not the same classes that I am acutally going to take this winter.

I opened up my AADSAS application - and found that there is an actual EDIT window - which allows you to edit the different classes that you said you would put down on your application.

I am just worried - my question is, "If I use the EDIT window to change the different classes that I will take, will that hurt my chances of getting accepted into dental school? I have already taken all the pre-requisite classes that my dental schools requires, and I am just worried - if I am not allowed to change the classes that I take, then why would there even be an edit window in the first place. I'm sure that dental schools understand that we don't know exactly what classes we will sign up for 6 months from the date that we send in our application. When I first sent in my application to AADSAS, the classes that I said I would take in winter and spring 2013 - those were just guesses."

I'm worried. Do you think that if I use the edit window to change the list of classes that I take in winter and spring 2013, - will that hurt me? will dental schools admissions get angry at me? Please help me.

Can anyone please give me advice? I am extremely worried.

Wow, calm down. You're fine. All pre-reqs are done, the important classes. As you said, schools know that your future classes are uncertain and that things may come up. The classes you take now will probably not affect your chances at dental school, unless you get terrible grades in those classes.

"will dental schools admissions get angry at me?"
Doubt it. I'm sure they have more important things to worry about.

I'm in the same boat. It's extremely frustrating trying to register for classes at a CC (i already graduated from my Uni). It sucks being at the bottom of the totem pole (registration wise) when I used to be one of the first to register at my old institution.

I'm sure you'll be okay. The put the edit button in because they know you won't be guaranteed a spot in the future semester. There's really nothing to worry about.

Unless it's a prereq...then you're doooooomed!!!

Wait - i was wondering - so do you guys think that it would be okay for me to have different classes Winter and Spring quarter - as long as I report them on the edit window? please help. I am already done with all my prerequisites.

Yes, edit them, won't matter.

My dec 1 acceptance from Baylor said it was "contingent upon the successful completion of the courses outlined" to them during the interview paperwork. If you get acceptances then I'd notify the schools you're considering. If you're still waiting on interviews I'd update aadsas now

But I don't understand. How can I notify them now when I still don't know my spring quarter classes. I'm so confused and worried about this. I am hoping that someone out there can please help me. I am so worried.

Depends on who "them" is. Do you think you have a good chance of getting an acceptance in less than 2 weeks or are you still hoping for interviews?

Again, if you get an acceptance just be open with schools of your situation and ask if they have a preference in case certain classes don't work out. With your prereq classes you shouldn't have a hard time I assume completing before graduation. Sometimes those upper division science classes can change (whether you take micro or immunology, histo, pathology,...).

If you don't have acceptances, just update aadsas anytime something changes. Even if you're not registered I assume you can see what courses are generally offered in the summer?

I guess I don't understand completely bc my undergrad allowed me to map out a tentative course load projecting until graduation and it told me what courses were offered each semester. This didn't guarantee me a spot and didn't say what professors were teaching or what time the class was. I just knew what classes I wanted to take that semester. When registration rolled around I tried to make my schedule fit with the courses I had planned out. If there was a conflict that couldn't be resolved id swap courses with another that was available that I was planning on taking in the future. If by your last semester you haven't been able to work in all the classes that dental schools recommend that you take, that's when you call them up and ask what priority they have...and make it work.

I'm sorry if I'm missing the point to your question but what I explained seems like common sense to me. Maybe you just need to visit a department head/academic counselor to help you plan courses
