I am attending a four year college, and my current gpa (I am a senior) is 3.9🙂. When I came to the U.S. five years ago, I transfered 30+ credits from a University in Bulgaria, however, my school does not show the grade, instead they appear as T. So, I am planning on taking the mcat next year, but I am really worried that AAMC will calculate somehow the grades for these transfer credits into my gpa (which would be terrible because my gpa will decrease significantly). Has anyone been in similar situation? Does anyone have an idea if the aamc have access to the original document from the University in Bulgaria that I submitted to my current school? In that document, my grades are displayed as very good, meaning a b, excellent, meaning an a, etc. Please help me find out, I am really worried. Thanks in advance

Why don't you call AMCAS and ask them? I doubt anyone here has a concrete answer. Their number is listed on their website. Just call them anytime from 9am-7pm EST, Monday through Friday.

Thanks, I will do that, I just wanted to find out sooner.

QofQuimica and a friend of mine were in a similar situations and the results were not promising. Although both eventually got into medical and dental school respectively, their out of the country grades were not accepted. My friend was also a second year dental student who had to repeat undergraduate school too! But the best advice would be to verify this information with the AMCAS.

I'm not sure why so many people think that I am from another country; you aren't the first person to make that mistake. But for the record, I never took any classes at a foreign university. I am an American citizen and attended college at an accredited American LAC. I did study abroad for one semester during college, but that was administered through another American university's program (not my own school), where I was registered as a visiting student. My application difficulty at certain schools was because my college doesn't use grades or credit hours, and I had no GPA or grades for my prereqs. This is nothing like the OP's situation.

OP, you should definitely contact the AAMC and ask what they want you to do. But my guess is that unfortunately, you will probably have to report those grades. Life is unfair sometimes, but you're better off being honest and taking your lumps now, rather than risk taking them later by being kicked out of med school for falsifying your app. Omission of any eligible coursework does count as a falsification, because you sign an affidavit that you have reported all of your post secondary coursework to AMCAS when you submit your app. Best of luck to you. 🙂

Ok, so I called aamc today and guess what? They do not verify foreign grades, meaning foreign grades do not appear on gpa!!! This is a great news for me🙂))) Thanks for the responses guys
