Hi, friends,..i need some opinion (and advice ) from all of you who is training anesthesiology about something...here it is:
i am still a general physician in my country...and i want to take anesthesiology residency someday..but for now, i still want to have some more working experiences that can help me prepare myself for the residency.
so, i did apply to a very reputable hospital in my country and because i am very interested to Anesthesiology (and also because i find myself have a very lack of experience managing the ICU patients all this time), i have aimed for the ICU's general physician position who helps the specialist doctor to monitor and manage the patient...
but this morning i got the call and they offered me a job as the emergency room general physician instead, not the ICU position because they think i will be suited better there 🙁 i think they assumed me like that because i had some good experience stated in my CV while i was working in the rural hospital ER.
But that's the problem...although i never feel that i already have gain enough experience in the ER, but i think i haven't gain enough experience in ICU as much as what i had from the ER for now...so,this quiet confuse me, i do don't know which job (ICU vs ER position) will prepare myself better for the residency in my condition right now?😕
i do need an opinion,
1.what do you suggest me to do?
do you think i should find another hospital (probably less known hospital) that can provide me the ICU position?
or should i accept that job offer as the ER physician (again) because it is the highly reputable hospital in my country and i can sharpen my ER skills?
2. is it a must that if i want to apply the anesthesiology residency, i need to gain a lot of ICU experience before?
please help me..i haven't gone into residency, so i do need some enlightenment from all of you who is 'inside' the residency about how i can prepare myself to a great residency someday..🙂
regards,
Ketap🙂
