Hi, I got into four dental schools this year. Boston Uni., U of Pitt, Temple, and U of TN. I was happy that I got in, but I now got to make this painful decision in 10 days. I thought Temple was ok, but I didn't like the surrounding area. So far BU and UPitt both seem to have better surrounding area. U of TN is pretty cheap. But I am kinda leaning toward BU and UPitt Both schools seem to have descent facilities, and the dental students were all friendly to talk to. Which school should I choose in your opinion?
thanks for your input.

James

PS. if you are BU students, what do you think about APEX program?

Why dont you try to find some student in the Program to give you an idea of the program which helps you make up your mind. I wrote to a few students from the Bu program and they found the clinical experience less as comapred to the therotical aspect which is stressed upon. the apteint pool is less comapred to teh students there. That might help you to compare with the other schools you ha ve been offered a place.
All the Best

James,
Of the four schools you mentioned, I know the most about Temple. Two years ago I participated in the Prospective Student in Residency Summer Program at Temple Dental and had my first experiences there. Over the past two years, I've gotten to know a few students there (currently 2nd and 4th years) and am pretty familiar with the scene there. Of the eight schools I was admitted to this December, Temple has definately the most rigorous clinical requirements of them all. If your emphasis is on clinical exposure, Temple is the place for you. My buddies who are students have always stressed its a great place to learn dentistry, the academics are very good, but not so demanding that it's impossible to do well if you want to specialize. But I think Temple prides itself in producing great general dentists as opposed to other schools that might brag about their specialty numbers. I went to high school in Delaware and Philly is a great town. Hope this helps.
