I can't draw the molecule here =( but if anyone has that some OAT problems please tell me how to do it

how many pie orbitals does pyridine have.. I thought 6 but answer says 7

another question is some reaction but, I can never seem to get how

2- butanone + KOH + KCN yields 2-methyl-2-butanol

what kind of reaction is it =(

please help me

1. Pyridine does have 6 p-orbitals. Just like in benzene, each of the atoms in the six-membered ring is sp2 hybridized.

2. The first step in this reaction is the nucleophilic attack of CN- (from KCN) on the carbonyl carbon in the ketone. After protonation, this gives 2-hydroxy-2-methylbutanenitrile. I don't know how you accomplish a cyano-to-methyl transformation after that, but I don't think KOH does it.

Correct me if I am wrong: KOH takes the alpha-Hydrogen and CN comes attach to it. May be this is how you get the CN with a methyl?

gigawatt is right. if the product is 2-methyl-2-butanol, the given reagents do not account for the transformation.
