hi - im kind of having trouble thinking of what i should do the next 2-3years. my gpa from cal is 3.3 while my science gpa is 3.1. i have gotten a 38 on the mcat and did all the pre-reqs along with other health related classes. my ecs/recs are all probably just average. i prob might not even get into any SMPs that i apply for if i decide to.

my main concern is my gpa. i will be graduating this fall 2011. what should i do from jan2012~june2012 until i apply june2012? informal postbac or job? also should i apply to SMP while im applying to medical school just in case i dont get into med? or should i just stick with postbac for now? thanks

Gez, you have a 38 mcat?! With your GPA/MCAT, apply to certain D.O schools.

Apply to both! The application process is unpredictable anyway. You may be surprised.

You should just apply to MD schools right now, I know a lot of people who have gotten in with around a 3.3 gpa and a MCAT of around 30-32. Apply to MD schools this cycle and apply to some SMP programs as a backup if you are very concerned, but I think that you should be ok with your stats.
