Okay, so like many other future dentists, I have a very difficult decision to make. I was accepted into Tufts, UMDNJ, Nova and NYU. I would also like to one day specialize. I am leaning towards Tufts because I hear alot of positive feedback from the school. Although, to be honest, all the school I interviewed at boasted the same things, " tons a patients during your clinical years". Does anyone have any feedback on any of these schools?? Please! Thank you so much🙂

I'd cross NYU right off the list because it is so expensive, then pick the cheapest among the other three.

I completely agree.

I agree with the other posts. If you are an NJ resident, UMDNJ hands down.

Congratulations and Good Luck!

I'd say narrow it down to Tufts or UMDNJ. Tufts for sure if you are not an NJ resident, UMDNJ if you have friends/family in Jersey and like it there.

Whether or not you are a NJ resident, go with UMDNJ. Save those big $$...
If you aren't NJ resident, I think u can become one after 1st year of school and get in-state tuition.

On an externship I worked with a few tufts students and was not impressed at all. Clinical skills were not up to par.

I almost went to UMDNJ and friends who are now in the program say they hate it. they have lost something like 13 tudents in their 2nd year class already. administration only sees you as $ signs. Clinically I think it is a good school though, and I o like their new clinic.

My suggestion:

GO WITH YOUR DEEP DOWN GUT FEELING. Where would you want to be if money/significant others/etc. weren't an issue? Unless you are willing to sacrifice.. which is cool as long as it's a conscious decision.

That's funny, considering that great clinical training is what Tufts is known for, and the number of people they send to Prosthodontics residencies... guess you met the bad seeds.

hmm, i went with the cheapest school, and couldn't be happier. Dental school is hard no matter where you go, and you're going to get the basic skills no matter what. You can always do a GPR after if you don't feel ready or you may want to specialize anyway. You might even want to do a GPR if you went to the most clinically oriented crazy ridiculously awesome school in the country, but i bet a lot of school produce dentists with skills that are similar to each other.

Seriously, go cheap. With this economy who in their right mind would pay 3X as much to get the same degree and earning power? It just doesn't make sense.

I'm kind of in the same boat, with UF and USC.....

I'm from Florida but in no way do I feel compelled to stay in Florida....

USC has a great "name" and location, and UF is muuuuuch cheaper and still has a good rep

everyone seems really helpful with the decision process and the financial tips and would love some input..any thoughts?!?

thanks so much in advanced!

You pretty much gave answer to your own question. No patient gives a crap what 'great name' dental school you graduated from so just pick the absolute cheapest dental school. Use the money saved (by not wasting on an expensive school) to later buy practice or a couple foreclosed rental properties or achieve financial independence earlier.
