Hi Rabab.

Normally, getting accepted into a specialty program with a foreign degree would be very very difficult (except in the case of prosthodontics and periodontics, which are somewhat less competitive).
However, in your case, you have two advantages. One, your scholarship (which I am assuming means that you can not practice in the USA upon completion of your program), and two, being a female dentist from Saudi Arabia. I do not mean to be discriminatory or any such thing, but from what I know female dentists in Saudi Arabia are unheard of. This would tremendously add to your "diversity" factor.
On the same note, I think a Saudi female dentist just like yourself has officially recently made the history books by becoming the first ever Saudi Arabian female Orthodontist. Know you know what I mean ?

In any case, you will need:

1. National Boards part I http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/nbde01/index.asp
2. National Boards part II (Maybe) http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/nbde02/index.asp
3. TOEFL www.toefl.org
4. Recommendation letters
5. Evaluated transcripts www.ece.org
6. Some graduate programs require GRE (if you are enrolled in the Masters program) www.gre.com
7. Personal letter of intetnt
8. Certification and proof of scholarship

On the same note, I would contact the following dental schools:

University of Michigan http://www.dent.umich.edu/
University of Florida http://www.dental.ufl.edu/
University of Iowa http://www.dentistry.uiowa.edu/

All of them have in the past accepted a large number of Saudi dental students on scholarships. You have a good shot there. In fact I believe there is currently a Saudi female dentist enrolled at University of Michigans Prosthodontic program.
Contacting the schools and finding out what their individual requirements are would be your first step. The requirements I listed here are pretty generic, and not specific for any certain school.

Congratulations and good luck.

Rabab,

If you're only intending to complete your specialty education and then return to Saudi Arabia at the end, then you don't need to worry about completing an advanced standing program.

I met a Saudi male dentist who is in Boston (at BU) doing a fellowship in orthodontics. But if you want to be a specialist by the American standards, you would need to complete a specialty training program.

On the other hand, if you want to live and work in the US (as an independant dentist) then you will have to satisfy the licensure requirements (e.g. advanced standing program for the American DDS/DMD and state licensure exams).

As for other countries:

Canada - pretty similar to the US admissions criteria. YOu can't practice there unless you have a dental degree from the US or Canada

U.K. - you will have to enroll in a university-based coursework program that leads to a Master's degree in a given specialty. However, you would have to complete the Membership exam (MFDS) in one of the Royal Colleges, if you want to get on the track to become a licensed specialist in the U.K. Many would already have a MFDS or FDSRCS title so you would need to pass the exams. The specialists who usually work on NHS need to be in a specialized training pathway that is not normally open to foreigners. In order to get a license to practice, you would need to complete the International Qualifying Exams and then complete a Vocational Training Tract.

Hope this was of help. I didn't mean to make it too complicated!

Good luck and inshallah!

Dear Dr. Rabab
it is true what the guys had mentioned about how difficult it is to get addmitted to an american program, but it is not impossible it all depends on how determined you are.
I know that because I got my DDS dgree from syria and my speciality and masters from the states.

by the way, since I work in saudi arabia, I know about lots of highly trained and highly profisional female specialists in all fields of dentistry, you may wanna visit one of the dental schools in saudi arabia and meet them, and you can ask them then about their experiences and how they got their degrees.
you are also more than welcome to ask me too.

good luck
