Hello everyone,

I started at East Tennessee State University over the summer as a first time freshman at age 27. I've completed 12 hours over the summer and entered the fall with 16 hours of classes with a major in Corp. Finance & Investments. My plan has been to take the required med classes, along with the major. However, three weeks ago, I was hospitalized with what was thought to be a heart attack, and spent 9 days in the hospital, now, I was set to go back to school this week after the holidays, but SUNDAY, my father had a massive stoke and I am now with him at the hospital. I will now fail all 16 hours because of attendance, and I have no clue what to do. I can't withdraw from the courses(too late) and I don't know if I can get an Incomplete this close to the Semester end. What can I do to get this behind me if I fail these classes. Is their any way to fix this problem? My gpa was 4.0 until this happened, but that's not saying much seeing how I just got started.

Thank you for your help in this, this has been the worst 2 months of my life, but I hope I can rebound and still make it into med school later. Thanks Again,

James

You need to talk to an administrator at your school. If you were hospitalized because of an MI for 9 days, I just can't see them failing you on 16 credits.

Have you talked to your schools Registar/Undergraduate office?

Sounds like grounds for a medical withdrawal.

(I was able to withdraw last year 2weeks before finals when my apartment building got foreclosed and I got a 5day to vacate notice, and they gave me my tuition back for the semester).

The other posters are right. All schools have the power to withdraw you from classes at any point, you just can't do it automatically after a certain date. Talk to an administrator or your dean and explain your situation. They'll allow you to get out of your classes and you'll just need to retake them.

Thank you all SO MUCH!!!!
I contacted the School and I have been told that they will give me a W for the classes, I know that this is not the greatest but it is better than an F for 16 credits!... They said that when I apply to med school, that I will be given a chance to explain the W's You all have helped so much. thank you!
