Hello,

Frankly I need some advise or guidance as to what I should do.

First I want to know what would give me good chance of getting into a medical school.

Right now I just graduated from university this summer. My GPA is quite low for me to apply for medical school at the moment. (3.13/4.00)

I was thinking going into master's program for 2 years and apply for medical school after that.

I am open to any suggestions and I might consider other health related careers such as dentist, pharmacist, nurse etc...

Any advise or comments would be appreciated.

Thank you

A traditional masters degree will not help you get into an allopathic (MD) medical school. You will be judged by your undergrad GPA. Taking more undergrad classes will help to raise it. Another route to redemption is the SMP (Special Masters Program). You can read about this in SDN's Postbaccalaureate Forum. You need to take the MCAT and get a good score to qualify for this program. You could also consider applying to DO medical schools which are more forgiving of low GPAs.

First, you must decide what it is you want to do. Only you can make this decision.

I second that. It's cliche, but where there's a will, there's a way. If you really want to be a doctor, do a SMP, kill the MCAT and you'll get in somewhere. If you're open to anything in the health care world, the time, effort and money you'll invest into an MD or DO aren't worth it.

is that a 3.13 out of a 4.0 or 3.13 cum gpa and 4.0 science?

I agree with others that you have to first decide what you want to do. Just because you have a low GPA does not mean it's the end of the road as far as an M.D. is concerned. But I am not clear if you have the commitment at this point for an M.D. Getting into medical school is tough but it would be even worse if you get in and then decide you wanted to be pharmacist. My humbled opinion, get as much exposed to medicine as possible (volunteering, shadowing physicians, etc).
