Hi ya'll
I have been accepted to both Ross and SGU's veterinary programs and I having a real tough time deciding on which school to attend. If anyone could let me know why you picked the school you did that would be great!

Ross
I have read on forums that Ross students are targeted for robberies and that St. Kitts isn't the safest (regardless of where you live). Also, I have read that Ross doesn't have a support system for their students and that you are out to fend for yourself once you get there. A positive about Ross is the federal funding for lower interest rates and more flexible repayments options.

SGU
I haven't found anything really negative about SGU. It sounds like they have a great support system for their students, the island offers things like the US (movies, shopping, etc) and great professors. Although the higher interest rates through private loans a drawback.

Any feedback on this would be awesome! =)

I'm not a current or former Ross/SGU student, but I know people who are. Based on what I have heard from them (if these are your only two options) I would choose SGU in a heartbeat.

Hi there 🙂

I'm in my third year here at SGU, and I enjoy it. The education is going to be the same no matter which school you pick.

Ross does have federal loans, which is a big deal. If you decide on SGU, make sure you secure a co-signer for your loans. I can't say much about Ross because most of what I know is hearsay. Grenada is safer than St. Kitts, and as far as I know, we have certain luxuries that Ross students don't have. (Anyone that knows for sure, feel free to chime in and correct me if I'm wrong) We have buses that come every 10-30 minutes that take students to school. Therefore, you don't necessarily need a car here. I don't know the capacity of the dorms at Ross, but I know that SGU has more options available as far as dorms go.

The faculty is great and everyone is very supportive of each other. The first few terms here, there are DES sessions available which is basically a tutor session for certain classes. And the professors are always willing to help students if they have questions. A lot of the professors here are from State schools such as Florida, Auburn, Purdue, Washington, etc.

Grenada is a third world country. And although we do have an IGA grocery store here, you may not always be able to find what you want when you want it. For example, milk sells out pretty quickly, so you may only be able to get it on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There are movie theaters here, but they are a lot smaller than what you are probably used to. Movies don't usually come out until a month or two after the movie premieres in the States.

Despite all of this, I still love it here. And I'm thankful everyday that SGU has offered me this opportunity to become a Veterinarian. Besides, there are some of the most beautiful beaches in the world here, which is always a great way to relax after tests. 🙂

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Sorry I couldn't be more helpful with information about Ross. I'm cautious to say anything about Ross because, like I said above, most of what I know is hearsay.

Good luck!
