Hi there, Please help.

I have some questions about the application form. Please help out. I know I am very late, but if anyone would be kind enough to tell me the truth, I be very thankful.

It says that the last date to submit applications is Dec. 15 for the schools I want to apply to. Does this mean:

1. that I push the submit button by dec. 15 and it’ll be okay?

2. Or does that mean I have to submit now because I am getting this message for my GPA calculations. This is the message they wrote: “Your GPAs are not available because one or more of your transcripts may not yet have been received and/or verified by AADSAS. Your GPA calculation will be posted after AADSAS has received your application, processing fee, and received and verified all transcripts. Transcript verification can take 4-6 weeks to complete.” They have my transcript already.
Will I have to submit it now so that it will be in time for the dec. 15 due date?

3. I am screwed. Wait till next year’s cycle

And one more thing. I wanted to take my DAT on Dec 5. Is that too late to take it?
I read somewhere that the completed application does not include letters of evaluation and DAT for the application to be submitted through aadsas. Still, does the Dec. 15 deadline apply to DAT scores? I believe that I heard somewhere also that someone got in with taking a test in December, but don’t know if it was for the dec. 15 deadline.
Please help!!

Anyone here can give you an answer...but the best answer would be to call the admissions office to the schools you are applying to and ask them directly. Most are usually really helpful and willing to help.

Nonetheless, I'll give you what I know....(Disclaimer: This is what I believe to be true...but, please don't take my word for it)

You'll be okay as long as you hit the submit button before Dec. 15. However, make sure that everything that comes into AADSAS is postmarked before Dec. 15. So, if you have transcripts....send it now! LOR's....send it now!

Taking the DAT in December is very late. The completed application, in fact, DOES include LORs, Transcripts, and DAT scores. Check the schools that you are applying to because some schools have deadlines for taking the DAT. For instance, some wanted it to be taken in October....if that's the case, then you are late...

I'm sure there is always a chance you can get in to dental school this late in the game but you probably have to have outstanding GPA's and DAT scores. Not to mention, you might end up on the "waitlist" along the way...

This is a tough call... It's up to you if you're willing to put the time in this next two months to work your butt off. If it's worth it to you, then go for it. You have nothing to lose...except $$. 🙂

First off- It depends on what schools you are going to apply to.

Using the Dec 15 date, you would need to submit ASAP, ADDSAS is VERY slow now, and I think it would take almost double the time they have posted.

As far as the DAT q's, talk to the schools you want to apply to-each will most likely have a different policy.

If you wait and apply next year, you will delay the date you can practice by 1 year. But, that may be at the cost of 1 year’s income (say 100k).

If you apply now, you may risk not getting in (costing you the ADDSAS fees and secondary fees) or you may get accepted.

Also, How competitive is your application-is your GPA higher than average (sci=3.5 about), so you have lots of volunteer activities, shadowing/work exp., research, etc?

If your stats are just so-so, you may have missed the boat this time around, if you have a highly competitive application you may ok.

Go ahead and submit you application, as you know, or should know, that there is an area in the AADSAS application to say when you plan on taking the DAT.

AADSAS will not touch your application until you have paid for it. This means that if you submitted today, your application will go out 4-6 weeks from the date that your GPA was calculated (According to Cynthia Gunn AADSAS Cust. Care Super.)

It is my understanding (I read this some place) that it is the schools discretion to accept/deny applications that they "physically" received after their respective deadline. So this means, while yes your application was submitted "before" the deadline, the school may not have received it by then and they can choose at that point.

If you take the DAT dec 5, usually you can fax your score to the school as a temporary measure until they receive the official scores.

Waiting until Dec to press the submit but would be an extremely bad choice and it is my recommendation that you do it now.

Thanks for all the help, you guys!!!

I just got off the phone with one of the schools and they said that I can fax my DAT score to them the day I take it. But they definitely want the applications in as soon as possible b/c the supplemental is due soon afterwards.

You're right, aadsas is so slow. 👎 My LORs have been sent in over a month ago, but still the status page says they're still waiting for the letters. Basically i have to ask my professors to resend them. 😱

Well, thanks again 🙂

also realize that LOR's are also sent separately from the application. its been a month after my initial application went out, and schools are just now getting my LOR's. you would probably have to get your professors to send another copy of your LOR's directly to the schools too in order to speed things up.

So, do you know if they send the application through the computer or snail mail? And how do the send LORs? It seems to me really crude to do send it by regular mail. Anyone know?

I know for a fact that the "deadline" refers to the date that you e-submit, meaning the day that you press that AADSAS button. I have proof if you would like to see it.

Send your application in, a lot of schools are really slow this year.
