Please help! to get shadowing experience

Hi.

I've been trying to find shadowing experience with a dentist since winter break started...but they all kindly rejected...I think because they are in private practice and don't want to invade patience privacy.

How would I find a dentist to shadow?

I think there was a thread like this from someone who is from Brooklyn.

I am from NJ but I can easily get to NYC (Manhattan) by one bus trip. What hospitals would allow me to shadow a dentist?
I would appreciate if I can get phone numbers to call and where the hospitals are.

Can anyone who found shadowing experience in NYC or NJ provide some information? I would really appreciate it.

Heya,

Off the top of my head, hospitals in Manhattan where you can volunteer and can ask to do it in dental departments:

Lower Manhattan:
Bellevue (Pedo and OMFS only)
St. Vincent's (GPR and OMFS)
VA (GPR)

Upper West Side:
St. Luke's-Roosevelt (GPR pnly I think)

Upper East Side:
Mount Sinai (GPR, Pedo, AND OMFS)

There are more. Just look up Yahoo for their addresses and contact numbers. There should be a bunch of hospitals in Northern Jersey that have dental departments too.

Link to USA GPR programs

Click on "Participating Postdoctoral Programs" and then click on "General Practice Residency - GPR" Then look for all the programs in NJ or NY or wherever you want to be. It is a pdf file.

If you follow the links and get the program list, has the phone numbers, program directors, & websites of most all the dental departments of the hospitals offering GPRs in the US.

Cornell Medical & Columbia's Hospitals also have GPR programs in Manhattan. There is also Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ if that's near you.

My first choice is your dentist.
If he doesn't let you to shadow, find another dentist to receive your dental care 😉
