Hi everyone!! 😳

I am going to start school this fall and I am currently choosing between UC Irvine and Pittsburgh...this may seem simple to some people, but it is sort of a tough decision for me. As I see it, the pros of Pitt are good national reputation, good research opportunities, great hospitals, overall very strong and well respected program...the pros of Irvine are getting to stay in California, weather (I have never lived in snow), lower tuition, closer to family, very happy/friendly student body. As a side note, I definitely want to do residency in Cali, but I am not sure what specialty yet.

I would truly appreciate anyone's comments about this...I am trying not to get caught up in the USNWR rankings and all the premed hype...I would really just appreciate any advice from those in med school already or those who have graduated! Thank you so much!!! 🙂

it sounds like you really wanna go to UCI and are just looking for pple to tell you to go for it. therefore, go for it!

UCI is the clear choice, for me it would

Just looking at your SDN name, I would say go for UC-I.

One of my friends here had to chose b/w Pitt and UCD and is VERY happy she picked UCD because she is closer to home. I too am so happy that I am close to friends and family. It really helps because med school is a grind and it is good to have support. My vote is to stay in California unless there was something really special about Pitt that really draws you to that school. If you want to match in California you'll do well having gone to a UC. And being in the Northeast over spring break reminded me how much snow and cold weather really sux.... you really can't be California in that sense. Good luck with your decision.

I really love Pitt but I'm somewhat biased because I'm from Pittsburgh. So normally I would recommend Pitt over UCI but unless you have a solid support system in the Pittsburgh area I think you're making a good decision in staying close to home.

california, very high board score avg...UCI...no brainer.

Hi, thanks so much for your advice and opinions. Yep, I have decided to go with UCI! I think I'll be happy staying in Cali. Thanks again 🙂
