I need some advice on UCHSC. I am a third year and ready to start my audition rotation and one of my top three choices was UCHSC. I have already submitted my application for a senior elective and paid $125 for application fees. I went online last week and their website has changed. http://www.uchsc.edu/extern/

Now for osteopathic students you are required to pay $2000 for administration fees. 😱 I have heard such wonderful things about gas at this place and they have four DO students in their program! I also heard if you rotate you were given an interview automatically(?).

Should I spend the money? What is another 2 grand if It helps me get a shot at a program I was really interested in? 😕

Please hep with advice about the program, any recent director changes, and info would be great about my dilema. Thanks in advance!

$2000 for just a rotation? Why not give the money to me. I'll get you in somewhere.

No school is worth that much money. Don't fall for it. Gas is going to be the same for most programs. it won't matter much. In fact, i wouldn't even pay for the crazy $125 application fee! What a load of crap!

That's ridiculous. There are a lot of great programs out there, you can find one to do a rotation that has no fee or a small fee. Regardless of how many DO's are in the residency, any program that charges that much for a DO to do a rotation obviously isn't DO friendly. There's NO WAY I would pay that.

I too am a third year (MD, not DO however) and was looking forward to getting out of the midwest and doing an anesthesia rotation at UCO this fall. From last year's application to this one, the fee went from something like $35 to $125, plus they've added the HIPAA requirement and the BCLS. HIPPA we can do for free, but if I want the free BCLS class at our school I have to wait until February to do it (obviously too late) or pay an additional $50.
I've been going back and forth over this one with my boyfriend; we're couples matching (him in surgery) and he thinks it might be worth paying the fee, but I can't convince myself of that.
What is the $2000 even for?

Your boyfriend is clueless. Just because you pay that crazy fee doesn't guarantee you a spot or interview at that program. If you're couples matching, it's even harder. Be realistic, that amount of money can take care of a good portion of your interview season expenses. The reason you're couples matching is primarily to be together during residency. The location is a secondary priority, isn't it? Otherwise, the two of you would have just applied individually to get into the best program.

If I remember correctly, U Colorado med school charges close to $50k for tuition for out-of-state students. Stupid...it's only because of the ski slopes.

The $2000 is for "administrative fees" (whatever that means?) I called and spoke with their graduate education contact person and there is no way they will waive the fee. Thanks for all the advice!
