Hi everyone,

I am getting started on my DAT today. I will have approximate 11 weeks to study for it. I plan to spend the first 5 weeks to review materials thoughtfully, which means I have 6 weeks left for practices. I will be practicing DAT Destroyer, DAT Bootcamp, and possibly Qvault if time permitted.
I plan on to study hard, at least 9 hours per day. Do you guys think my schedule looks sufficient? Any more suggestions for practicing materials?

I truly appreciate for your advise. Please input.

I like your study plan, just remember the DAT Destroyer is not a book to be used for timing, it is a learning tool. When using the Destroyer make sure you have good reference materials handy to look up anythings you might need help with. Your Orgo Text Book and also GenChem should be near by should you need to reinforce any concepts. The Destroyer is designed so you can tackle any problem that comes your way. Don't get frustrated with the Destroyer, it is a challenging book , but so is the DAT!

No one has a crystal ball to tell you exactly what to study, anything is fair game and some tests are much more challenging than others.

Wishing you the best and feel free to post any questions you have along the way and we will do our best to answer them.

Take care..Nancy

Hi Nancy, I appreciate for you advice. Please help me with another question. After I finish my material review stage, I want to start with DAT Destroyer first. I think DAT Destroyer is hard so that it would help me understand clearly problems. After finishing with DAT Destroyer, I hope to earn enough knowledge. I want to start DAT Bootcamp and other practice materials with timing. Do you think this would work the best?

As long you learn the material first and take a few tests it's ok but don't get consumed with test taking. I find that students that continually take timed tests will gain a false sense of security if they score high or deflates the ego if the score is low. A timed test only indicates what you get on that set of questions, if presented a completely different set of questions on test day the outcome will be different.

I highly recommend the tests developed by the ADA after all the materials are reviewed.

Hope this helps.

Nancy

Hey everyone,

I'm currently using the 10-week DAT Bootcamp study schedule but it's taking me longer to complete it than what is says your suppose to do per day. I began studying 2 weeks ago and I'm just beginning Week #2 of the schedule. I'm studying 5 days a week (aprox. 6-7 hours per day). I have 15 weeks left to take the exam, so it worries me a lot. Has anyone had the same problem? Any suggestions are appreciated.

So the 10 week schedule is a rough guideline which, in my opinion, can easily become an 8 or 12 week schedule. Don't feel discouraged from something like that just continue working, you have only just begun 🙂

I took a lot of practice tests and never felt down or overly confident because I took those scores with a grain of salt. If anything, I always told myself I could improve since I never got perfect scores. So it all depends on what kind of person you are. If you get easily flustered then it's probably not a good idea to take "many" practice exams.

I was using the same schedule and i butchered it badly for the first basically 6 weeks. I was way behind in my bio readings(as in on Cliffs chapter 5with 4 weeks left :bang:) and not much better in chem, but in my last 4 weeks i kicked it into high gear and caught up. With 15 weeks left you should have plenty of time. One thing i would recommend though is don't let one subject halt your progress for the others(in the sciences). I ended up not reading through KBB at first and focusing on reading cliffs and just taking notes the same day. After I finished cliffs and took my first practice test I found that i was weak in genetics and I read that chapter in KBB and did that for my remaining weak sections in the two weeks before my exam.

Hope that helps!!! Keep it up it will be totally worth it!!!! I really wish i had stayed with the plan because I ended up not having time to touch more than 50 questions in destroyer 🙁
