Ok so I am having a hard time visualizing this stuff. How do you convert a newman projection to lines and dashes?

that is supposed to be 3-pentanol but how do you know that? Am I supposed to be looking from the right or left side in lines and dashes?

a drawing would be appreciated. Thanks

Did I convert this newman projection correctly? assuming I am looking at it from the left side of the lines and dashes

I just drew it and I believe it's a meso compound so OH can be that or dots doesnt really matter?
And yes I think the second one is right, R on the chiral carbon.

Thanks I am gonna practice converting this back and forth for all the answer choices.

Also are you supposed to be able to see if it is a 2,3, or 4 pentanol directly just by looking at the fischer projection? I know I can count the number of carbons to see if it is a pentane but is there a way of identifying the position of the OH just by looking at the fischer projection?

Did I convert the newman projection correctly on this one?

Looks weird but can you have a hydrogen on the end of the carbon chain like that?

im thinking yes and no...im pretty sure theres no R/S designation because there's no chiral carbons involved...so no need for the wedge - can just use a normal line

as for the hydrogen, you need to put the other hydrogens on that last carbon as well (if anything).... you can basically just draw it out as you would draw a 2-methylpropane (dont need to draw in any hydrogens)

Am I supposed to go crazy with this? how deep will this topic go on the DAT? god I hate this stuff, can't wait or PAT now...

I didn't have any newman projection on my test nor the fischer as long as I remember, or it must've been very easy so I don't remember.
