I don't understand your question. What are you trying to do? If you want to be a dentist, you obviously need the DDS. If you are talking about residency masters, they have to be after you have the DDS. Can you clarify?

I'm "presuming" you are an international trained dentist. In that case, here is the answer to your question:

You can do either.

A non-coda accredited dental graduate can either apply for advance standing to a CODA accredited dental school and and graduate (usually 2 years) with an accredited dental degree that will allow them to practice in every US state and Canadian province.

The other option is yes, you can complete either 2 years of AEGD/GPR or any ADA/coda recognized specialty program (i.e. certificate or masters program). However, if this pathway is taken... you will only (at the current time) be allowed to practice in about 15-16 of the US states and not anywhere in Canada.

If applying to a US program you will be required to pass the US dental board exams and if attending a dental school in a non-english speaking country you will also be required to sit for the TOEFL. (some programs may also require the GRE)

If applying for a Canadian program you will be required to pass the exams from the national dental examining board of canada (same rules apply for the TOEFL if from a non-english speaking country).

im in 4th yr now doin undergrad ....most pple after compeleting their undergrad do directlty masters.......some do DDS n then do masters im tryin to ask shuld i do masters cuz pple have discouraged me sayin tht by doin DDS u'll waste ur tyme n just do masters please help if u can thanxxx

THANKYOU Dr.Millisevert.....yes im in 4th yr undergrad(BDS)program international student...im interested in US....after compeleting my 4yrs do i need to do DDS??y not just do directly masters cuz pple say tht by doin DDS u waste tyme ....im confused btw DDS n masters program....🙁 i intend to give N.B.D.E part 1 soon ....i have to decide do DDS or Masters please help

DDS is a higher degree than a masters. If you can get an acceptance now, then you can go straight into your DDS and skip the masters. The masters would be a waste of time, not the other way around. (I'm getting the impression that you have them backwards...?)
