I am done with my step-3.

I had a problem that as I was managing an emergency case ,and when just 4 hours of simulated time had elapsed, suddenly a window popped up showing that the case has ended. But,there was still a lot of realtime remaining.
Before this happened , there were a few updates that the patient is responding and comfortable now.

Also, in two other cases I did everything possible but could not relieve the patients of their problems. It kept on showing that there is no change in the patients condition.

Does it mean that I screwed up these CCS cases ?

Please comment on this.
Thanks!

Remember, this test is about "managing" patient care, not curing the patient. If you have done the "approved" steps in taking care of your patient, even with "realtime" remaining, you have done what is required.

Sometimes the exam throws things at you that does not change the patient's condition. And sometimes it's not meant to. It's gauging what you would do under those circumstances.

Occasionally, the test throws things in to see if you would panic and order a smorgasbord of things that are not necessary. Sometimes just reassuring the patient is all that is needed. And if you choose that option and the test closes, it just may have been the appropriate response.

I hope this is of some help to you.

Rest easy,

Nu

Thanks indeed for a very detailed and a sharp reply.
But, I did order a lot of things ,which were not needed, in one of the CCS cases. Now,in hindsight, I know that it was so simple a case.I donot know how much will that harm.
Thanks again.

You're most welcome. Just for completion's sake, if it isn't too much to ask, let us know how the CCS portion worked out for you. I'm sure many who follow this board would like to know.

I would definitely discuss it ,but I think it is considered irregular behaviour by the USMLE to discuss the exam-related material.
So,sorry, I will not be able to reveal the content.
Generally speaking, the said case was a lot easy one regarding a very common complaint in children. But, I did not advance the clock properly after I gave him the medications/minerals and sent him home. I called him back more quickly than I should have.Due to this haste the remedy I had given him had not yet fully shown its effect.Due this lack of improvement in the patient,I started considering alternative diagnosis and ruling them out. So,I ordered more and more tests and they all came negative. At last I did stuck to the same treatment I had given initially, but by then I had ordered many unnecessary blood tests.I think I also did not discontinue something he was fed with which I now know was a contributor to the patients symptoms.
Regards and thanks for your concern.

Reread what I posted. You misunderstood my intent. I was not asking you for the content of your exam, just curious to see if the results of the CCS (not content, mind you) matches your impression. Others have commented about the results of the CCS in terms of how well they did. That's all I meant. It might be interesting to see if there is any correlation between the feedback from the actual exam (you did OK, you didn't do so OK) and your level of concern.

Best,

Nu

I know you did not ask me to reveal the content of the exam.
It was just I thought that in order to know one's performance on the CCS we need to know the actual content. But, at the same time, I know that I cannot disclose the content. So,I was in a dilemma regarding it.
Anyways,thanks for your genuine concern!
Will keep you all updated!
