Hello All,

I'm currently taking a DAT kaplans course which will end at the end of Aug. I was going to take my DAT's first week of september. Is it late to apply for the 2013 year?

Thank you

From what I have read here on sdn, Apply now!
If you know you will do fine in DAT then don't wait to take the test.
👍

Yes, apply now. Submit your LORS and your transcripts ASAP. Have everything turned in and ready to go a few weeks before your DAT. Also, make sure to submit your supplements beforehand too.

Thank you guys. what are the supplements?

Thank you guys. what are the supplements?

It depends on the school, but it is a way for them to get more information from you specific to each school in addition to the information that you provide through AADSAS. They include short questions and essays typically, but some only require an additional payment.

I recommend checking each school's website to see if they require a supplemental fee or additional essays. Some schools will contact you, and some will just require you to send them right away w/o delay. You can download the supplementals from each school if they are available on their school's website.

OP, I wouldn't buy into this "rush to get it done" nonsense. As with most things in life, "doing it right" is better than "doing it now". Depending on DAT cutoffs (do you have to wait a set # of months to retake?) you might even have a second chance if it doesn't go well.

I can speak for myself: took the DAT in early Nov, and got in that same cycle. Don't rush it.

If your application isn't going to be complete until the end of September, you will be considered rather late in the cycle. This all depends on your GPA and DATs. I have a friend who applied late September (as in submitting AADSAS) and the schools didn't receive his supplementals until November. He still had quite a few interviews, but that's because he also had 3.9 from a top 25 university, had a DAT of 22, 23, and 24 across the board, actually published a paper and has done a ton of volunteering at his dental office. He even interviewed at a few Ivy league dental schools and got waitlisted/late acceptances. He was just so late in the game.

Really take a look at your stats and think about how confident of an applicant you are. If you want to share your stats, others might be able to comment more.
