A little background...

School nbme (or whatever its called) with no studying 203, so I made my goal a 240.

5 weeks of studying with an NBME every saturday
week 1 6 - 224
week 2 7 - 228
week 3 11 - 226
week 4 12 - (today) 242
week 5 USMLE step

The thing about my 242 is it didn't feel like a fluke, I finally got a better grasp of the memorization stuff in pharm, ethics, stats, and micro and my path has always been solid. My UWorld scores started in the 50's, now I'm almost done and getting mid 70's-low 80's.

Obviously I'm thrilled with my recent progress, but I study so much better when I'm angry/scared about my progress (my week 3 lack of improvement was a great example). So please, insult me, scare me, tell me horror stories, and tell me I'm going to fail everything. I could use some good motivation 😎

TIA👍

you suck and you're going to fail. most people drop 50 points from nbme 12.

ah f**k, is a 192 a passing score?

bonus points for anybody who can think of an insult that includes something high yield for Step 1

You have Alzheimer's...that is why you will get a 192. If your 19th chromosome had ApoE2 maybe you would have been protected from forgetting things.

JK JK

I don't know anything about the passing part though.

While others are trying to scare you, I want to say well done on NBME 12 and do let me know what you did in one week and made a big jump? I am 2.5 weeks from exam and lingering around 224( NBME 13) 🙁

And on the same note, all the best for your exam, I am sure if you keep on doing that hard you will certainly jump another 8 points and break a 250.

you only got 242 on 1/4 test you took. How do you know its not a fluke?

I simplified things, only UWorld, FA, and some high yield pharm charts. (I still listen to Goljan everyday in the shower, during meals, while driving, and any other time I can't be reading). I've been doing Goljan and Pathoma basically all of second year so I feel very comfortable with path. For me the problem was forgetting all the little memorization things like biochem pathways, microbiology, pharm, and all the path buzzwords.

I basically decided I wasn't going to master all the hard stuff, so I wanted to make sure I didn't miss any of the easy stuff. So go for all the low hanging fruit first, there's no medal for getting the hardest question on the test right.👍

Just read the last few pages in the 2012 step 1 experience thread. Pretty terrifying -_-

2nd. I read it to feel bad about myself.

I also talk to my father when I need to feel bad about myself. When I broke 240 he said, "These are just a few data points. You need to keep working. What if you have a bad on test day? What if you reach a section with a lot of questions you don't know? Anything can happen. Everyone has bad days. You need to prepare for the worst case scenario."

Well, he scared the crap out of me, and I went down to my starting score! So don't overdo it!

Bump

Thanks for the help, I just got a 250 on NBME 13. I can feel the confidence coming back, please kill it for me.

You're fatter than your step score. Either lose weight or bring it up.

I know a guy who got a 250 on NBME 13 and then pulled a 218.

now that's some good stuff right there, reminds me of how I got a 37 on a practice MCAT and an unbalanced 30 on the real deal :scared: 😎

that inspired me to get offline and dive into some FA
