Hey everyone,
I just interviewed in Philadelphia a few days ago for the University of Pennsylvania. I really liked the curriculum, the laid back attitutde of the whole place and the environment. I was wondering if any one could clue me in on their thoughts about the school. Good, bad anything. I am from California so the thought of going East is a little terrifying but I think this school could be right for me. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rachel

Hey RachelMann. Glad you liked Penn so much. I think it is a great school. Someone about a week or two ago asked the same question so you might want to check out the comments everyone wrote.
I never figured out how to attached links, but if you search "Penn," the thread was call "What are your thoughts on UPENN?"

Rachel,

Better stay away from the East. Even if you get into one of the best med schools in the country it's not worth it to come over here. Don't you know that we are all savages over here. In fact if you ever traveled east by car (I don't recommend it) you would notice that there are walls around the borders of California that keep the barbarian hordes out. We are all savages over here. As I type this I am eating raw meat and sharpening my battle axe. The east is a very dangerous place. Not to be compared to the placid setting of South Central LA. Where deer run about freely and everyone joins hands and sings in a voice of tolerance peace and compassion. My advice to you go to a Cali state school and save those dangerous spots in the Ivy League schools of the east for us barbarians that know how to handle it.

Hi, I'm an undergrad at Penn and I also know some Penn Med students. All the Penn Med students I know really love it here, especially the curriculum and the amount of special attention from faculty. The facilities are also pretty great.

As for Penn in general, if you've never lived in an urban city on the East Coast, it might be somewhat of a culture shock coming here. The locals aren't very friendly and the Penn campus generally feels very fast-paced and business like. Most of the Penn med students I know live downtown and they like it. The area surrounding Penn's campus is not as bad as some like to say. Penn has really done a lot to develop areas around the campus and so it's actually pretty nice now, with a lot of nice stores, etc... and they are continually trying to improve the campus and the area. The area around the medical school is not even close to being off campus in the actual "West Philadelphia" area, so it is pretty safe (but I wouldn't walk around by myself past midnight because the medical school is kind of in the back of all these buildings and gets pretty desserted at night).

Hope this helps.
