Hello all. I am a senior majoring in zoology and i am graduating in december. Problem is i have a very low gpa (2.3) and i just recently thinking about medschool. I have enrolled for the princeton review this summer and i hope to do really well on the august mcat. I also want to do an informal post bacc in my school and apply to only DO schools cause it seems thats the only chance i have of getting into medical school. My question is that if i retake every single course i made below a c in during the spring summer and fall of 07 and reapply at the end of december does that mean my gpa will increase dramatically (assuming i make A's on all of them) and with an good MCAt score will i have a good chance of getting in to a medical school for fall 2008. I intend on applying to all the DO schools open at that time. including the brand new ones.
I will appreciate all the information i can get, especially honest ones . Thanks yall.

In theory, if you were to retake every course you got less than an A in, you should be able to get a 4.0😉. So yea retaking courses will significantly change your GPA in the eyes of DO programs. Combined with a good MCAT score, strong LORs, and EC's, you should be in a good place for DO's. Be sure to also take a good healthy courseload too. For one, retaking classes one at a time will use up more time, plus it also shows you can you do well with a full-time courseload. Thats about it! :luck:

DO school's replace grades in retaken classes, so definitely go for it. It's a great way to undo past damage.

I am graduating this spring with a 2.5 sci and 3.0 overall, double majoring in humanities and bio. I took the mcat last year and got a 24. Last week I got an acceptance from umdnj smp but I dont know if the program is right for me, as it will not improve my ug gpa. I was thinking of taking classes at a calstate for a year to improve my ug and retake the mcat. My other options are waiting for the Drexel medical sci prep program and getting a job while going to school part time at a cal state. Somebody in this discussion forum mentioned before how long it took to build up your ug gpa and that it will take the same amount of time to improve it enough for med school. Im feeling very discouraged that regardless of what I do, my stats are not going to improve enough to make any diff. Any suggestions?
