hi guys,
ive got a 2.9GPA overall and my science gpa is around 3.0. i just submitted my application and will be taking my DAT by the end of august.
Any ideas of how well should i score on DATs to get to a dental school?it doesnt matters which one though! if ive got a chance let me know.

Realistically prob 23-24+ to get them take another look. Anything lower than 21 they will most likely throw your app in the trash. A 3.0 might have been somewhat competitve 10 years ago but new adays it's just a bottom of pile stat.

I think it all really depends on your quality as an applicant in general. If you have good EC's, LORs, personal statement and you have a good explanation of why your grades are lower, I don't see why you wouldn't get another look with 20-21's.

Realistically though, you should try and score as high as possible, so when they're skimming stats to make those first big cuts they have a really good reason not to chuck your app.

A 21+ AA score and 21+ science would definitely make you competitive, in my opinion.

definitely well into the 20s range. also, rack up a lot of experience. the GPA will put you at a disadvantage, but it's def not impossible to get into dental school.

A 21+ AA score and 21+ science would definitely make you competitive, in my opinion.

I am assuming you want an honest response. And honestly, I would be surprised if a 21 would get you any love.

You need to nail the DAT (23 or 24 AA) and brace yourself for the possibility of reapplying next year. I'm not saying it can't happen for you this year, just that you are in a position where you need to have a plan B.

Don't get discouraged!! Try your best and see what happens...honestly, you know what your answer is on your post so just give it all you got. You never know what can happen b/c anything is possible. My stats aren't to great but hey what the hell...anything is possible. 😀

If you score 20+ in all sections of the DAT and apply to schools like NYU, BU and maybe Temple you have a decent shot. If you have tons of dental experience this will help you out with more schools. At the same time, it is dependent on whether you have an increasing trend for your GPA as this can also help.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you, but I've got a worse GPA than you. 😀 2.8 overall and 3.0 science. My application has been already sent out, and my official DAT scores sent. applying early definitely helps.....i think. Not to discourage you or anything, but I took my DATs in early June for a reason. I don't know how they cut people, whether they cut them right away or wait for their DAT scores. I didn't want to take a chance. So, I timed it, so that they recieve my DAT scores and application at the same time. I studied my ass off. Never studied so hard in my life. I advise you to do the same. It all depends on how much you want it. You can do it. just do it. ......do it.....do it......just do it....... 😀 keep on prayin.
