i was searching through some threads, seeing what kind of laminated sheets/ pens we get at the test center and i found this:

"Something to note, after a section finishes there is a window that pops up that you have to click on to go to the next section, however there is no rush on this (I waited for a couple min. between reading and math, using the time to erase my sheets and write equations/take a mental rest). "

is this true or do they just take the time you spend away from the next section, or does it just automatically start now?

also what kind of dry erase pens do you get? fat-hard to write with ones or nice sharp-tips?

NO sir its NOT TRUE.

DONT LISTEN TO THAT SH.. on your sciences after 45 mins you will get ok message even if you dont click ok the time will still go on. and when you are on your last 5 mintues you will get a message saying you have 5 minutes left. after that It will DIRECTLY JUMP TO PAT...
then same messages for PAT...

then break...

then RC then those time messages (45 mins, and 5 mins remaining) messages... then it directly jumps to Math.

it wont ask you "ohh do you feel like doing math? when ever you are ready click ok... thank you" but seriously no nothing waits for you it just jumps.

what you said holds for mcat but not dat

to answer your last question its like a sharpie... not a shap tip. Unless u are lucky. and bro buy ear plugs and take em w/ you. the ones that they have there if you wear it you will hear the ocean... lol

i knew it was too good to be true 🙁
thanks for clearing that up for me!
i love the ocean, but i definately dont want to be hearing it lol.
ya i bought some earplugs but how does it work during break; do i have to leave it next to the computer when i leave for the break?

yeah you leave it right next to your computer and do not take it with you. if you have ear wax more to you. more sound would be blocked lol 🙂

you can take ear plugs... like the very small ones but you have to present it to them before you go into the exam. and just pray that they wont touch it w/ their dirty hands... yeah ear plugs are gold... take them. it blocks those people who type really hard like gun shots... crazy people.

Good tip someone gave me: VISIT the testing center your planning on going to BEFORE your exam and ask to see what materials they are giving you. That way there's no surprise on Test day.

actually that is true. I took the DAT yesterday and I am not sure if that is an artifact of the testing station or what because the first time I took it it automatically started the time after each section. The section would end, the time up screen would come up, and it would wait for you to click ok to move to the next section. I was about 2 or 3 minutes late after my break and my time for reading comp hadnt started. I wouldnt rely on that break though, I think that the ADA receives that information and could change your scores accordingly if they felt so inclined.

No i took it it was not the case. And people should not believe everyone who says otherwise... b/c the test is meant to be taken the way it is. Why take a chance or risk? why waste money... not worth well for me it wouldn't be worth it. BAD IDEA

I'm pretty sure peanut is right. Once the time has elapsed for the test section or break, the other will start automatically, even if the start page remains on the screen. You don't get optional breaks or prolonged breaks between the test sections.
As for ear plugs. I brought my own and was not allowed to use them. The lady read through a book and it strictly says no outside objects can be brought inside to aid with the testing experience. Now, she could have easily allowed it, because I do not believe it provides an unfair advantage, but the rule book does not permit it. So it will depend on the testing center. Like an above poster said, go check it the testing center out. I also tried to bring in a smaller expo b/c I heard the ones you are given are fat and dull, and they were. Unfortunately this was not permitted either.

I wouldnt have thought it was true if i didnt just finish taking the test less than 24 hours ago. As for earplugs, at least at the place I went (wilmington, NC) they have a caveat on the rule sheet you have to read before checking in that says the only thing you are allowed to bring into the testing room from outside is earplugs. Maybe I took my test in an alternate reality but those were my experiences. Just sharing them.

I took the test in Septemeber and it was true- Between RC and Math I spent about 60 seconds writing out formulas etc. and then pressed continue, and had the full 45 minutes for math.

personally i hate earplugs. I can never concentrate with those things stuck in my ears. It bothers me so much. Same for the headphone thingy they have there. It hurts my temple and doesn't really block all the noises. I had wild noise coming off A/C directly from my back and two other ppl in the room were writing essay so the typing really bothered me too.

but all in all, do what comforts you the most. If you're the person who usually studies with ear plugs, it will work for you.

On topic: the pens... ah.. the pens... it is almost impossible to write anything down with those fat tipped pens on your paper. One equation fills up the whole space before you know it. I had to manage to do most of problems without writing anything down but if I had the sharp tipped pens, it might have been different. Does anyone know if you can bring your own pen? cuz when I asked them for sharp ones, they said they didn't have any.
