I am an american studying in a swedish medical school. I am not happy with the school and I have been here studying for three years with three more years to go. I don't like the system of the MD program but I really like the idea of D.O. . I would like to apply to D.O. schools but I don't know how they will feel about me having all ready studying three years of MD. I feel the idea behind D.O. education is awesome and an interesting approach to medicine. Does anyone have any clue on how the D.O. schools will look upon me as a MD student wanting to start over at a D.O. school? Thanks in advance for any advice!😀

For what it is worth. Finish your medical degree and then apply for residency at an institution in the US where you can get osteopathic training.

There are many institutions where DOs and MDs train side by side. I think Michigan State University even has a medical school with the DOs and the MDs together.

Can MDs get into DO residencies? I was under the impression that this was strictly verbotten. As to the original poster, is it the program at the school you're at that stinks, or is it MD training in general that you find distasteful?

I thought that it was possible to get Osteopathic training after graduating from allopathic training. I am pretty sure that I saw an article about an allopath getting training in manipulation. I know it is not a common.

In any case who cares what the schools think about you applying just go for it.

If you've taken the USMLE step 1 you coud possibly be admitted as a transfer student. I know this is not common either but I know it has been done before.
