While checking what the requirements to be excepted into the USC school of dentistry it said that: you need,

1. A minimum of 60 semester units, or the equivalent completed or in progress, at the time of application, from an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada. A bachelor’s degree is highly recommended. There is no preferred major.

Does this mean I can take all mt pre reqs at a CC with out a problem?

The requirements for UCLA school of dentistry were:

1.# of units: 90 semester units or 135 quarter units
2.* Limitations on accredited community college course work: only 70 semester or 105 quarter units will be accepted.

does this say I can only take a certain amount of the pre reqs at a cc?

if they don't explicitly say that they do not take CC credits, then you'll be fine. Do note that although it is allowed, you're still competing against people who have taken prereq courses at 4 year institutions or full course loads at 4yr's, so taking prereq's at a community college strongly discouraged (unless you have spectacular stats)

Schools post the minimum for consideration. CC work with a rockin' DAT will get a look at your application. Make sure your entire application is strong and you'll do great. Coursework is a large part but only one part of the application. If you do the first two years at a CC then adcoms will look for upper level coursework if good grades.

that means that of the required minimum of 90 credits, you can take up to 70 credits in a community college and the rest you must take at a four year institution. For the CC courses, you can take any courses, prereqs or other courses that may be required for you to earn your degree but do note that dental schools strongly prefer students take prereq's at 4 year institutions instead of community colleges. Also, the less number of credits coming from CC, the better.

If someone could only take a certain amount of there pre-reqs at a cc would they still take their DAT in the summer in which they are transfering to a university to be a junior? or would they transfer out finish there pre-reqs and take the DAT while they fill out applications to Dental school?

Not very many. Although, if you are disciplined enough you probably could figure out the second half of Orgo and take the DAT before completing Orgo II. I wouldn't recommend it however, I really needed to have taken all the classes to do well.

Yes, nearly all applicants take the DAT before taking all the prereqs. Most people take the DAT before taking Physics (especially two semesters of it!). There isn't any physics on the DAT, so there is no harm in doing that.

In fact, I would recommended taking Physics after applying to dental schools.

Pearlywhite is probably referencing prereq classes that are actually tested on the DAT, in which case few students attempt the DAT without completing those classes (although it's possible to take it prior to a second semester of Organic chemistry).

Couldn't have said it better myself! 🙂 I sometimes forget that physics were pre-reqs b/c I took them so long ago and they weren't on the DATs, which consumed my life until very recently!

How did you study for the DAT? What materials?

Obviously there is so much info in a textbook. Did you use Kaplan blue book as a guide and your textbooks for more information on topics on which you needed more help?

Only one semester of BIO? That is pretty sweet.

I studied bio the hardest, they can ask a million questions a million ways.

Pretty much anything is fair game in the Bio section. I didn't use kaplan's blue book. Just the Organic Edge book and the huge white kaplan book.

Here's my opinion on the kaplan book. I thought it was way to light in some areas and way to heavy in others. Oh well, those days are history, now I just need to graduate.🙂
