First off, I’m just your average U.S. MD student going to a state medical school. I’m mentioning that in case there are requirements for IMGs which wouldn't apply to me.

Okay, so basically at this point in the game, all we can do is fill out the ERAS application, make sure all our LORs have been received by ERAS, choose the programs we want to apply to, and assign each program its LORs, personal statement, our photo, and “USMLE transcript”. We do all that although ERAS still hasn't received our USMLE transcript since we would need to pay money for that to be transmitted to them. But we can’t pay that money until we pay for our ERAS application. We can’t pay for our ERAS application until September 15, which is the same day that program directors can actually start receiving/downloading our applications. So if it’s going to take 2-3 business days for our USMLE transcript to reach the ERAS people, then why would program directors even bother downloading applications on that same day? Because even if you submit/pay on the 15th, the soonest your application will be “complete” is around the 18th.

Am I understanding this right? Is there anything at all that you think I've misunderstood about this process?

By the way, what the hell happened on September 1? That date keeps popping up whenever I google anything related to ERAS. Or is September 1 the equivalent of what September 15 is for us today?

Also, one last thing, all I did on ERAS was click on the “yes” option for the question asking if we authorize them to get our USMLE transcript from the NBME. Is that all we do? We don’t need to go to that other website where we used to go print out our USMLE scheduling permit? Because if you go there, you’ll notice a link on the left side of the page that you can use to request your scores. We’re not going to do that, right?

Either I’m confused as hell, or I’m thinking about this way too much.

If you can clarify any of this for me, I can't tell you how much I'd appreciate it. Been up literally all night trying to figure this crap out, and I feel like I'm confusing myself even more. Thanks in advance for your time.

The one thing I'm certain about is that the September 1st deadline is now September 15th.

My guess for the rest (and what I'm doing) is that you just have to authorize ERAS to release USMLE scores and check next to USMLE scores for each program. I don't know about processing time though.

Word.

I appreciate your reply. It makes me feel much better for sure.

A program director would best answer this question. Presumably they would start reading applications to begin ruling out apps that have "dealbreakers" such as unacceptably low grades. Then as additional pieces of information come in (USMLE transcript, LORs, dean's letter), they can continue the triage process and call people to interview.

It used to be 9/1. It is now 9/15. Ignore the 9/1 date (or replace any old documentation with 9/15 in your mind).

I talked to ERAS about this and all we do is check the "Yes" box and then when we assign programs we also check that we release the score to them. The USMLE transcript is sent directly to programs. It is not first uploaded to ERAS and sitting there until 9/15.

thank you for taking the time to reply! So as to payment for ERAS, the soonest we'd be able to do that would also be on the 15th then, right?

thanks again!
