I have had many people read my personal statement (15-20 people). Half of the people love it and think it is awesome. The other half are all split. Of this half some people say they love certain parts, while others say they hate the same part the others loved. There have been 2 that have told me to rewrite the whole thing.

I have had college profs, a couple physicians, SDNers, med students I know, and other friends read it and there is no pattern to who liked and didn't. I.E. One physician liked it, the other said there was a lot to change. The groups are split!

I am beginning to get frusterated as July approaches- it seems that I can't make everyone happy... what if the adcoms end up being like all the poeple who didnt like it! I have 4 versions of my PS going that all state the same, but in a slightly different way based on each of the diff groups!

Anyone else experience this problem?!

make yourself happy...take all the good stuff people said and get rid of the bad stuff on your PS

Put some of the negatives in perspective. Some people, when asked to review something, will find SOMETHING to comment on. It is their nature. Even if it looks 'about right', they think that they are not doing their job if they don't comment on at least one thing.

Also, people are different. Some will like it, some won't. You won't please everybody. When you think it is good in your gut, send it. Otherwise, you will drive yourself CRAZY. 🙂

I agree with chopper.

If you try to make everyone else happy, you run the risk of making no one happy. If you do what you like, AT LEAST you'll be happy.

I think asking 3 or 4 people that you feel will be constructively critical of your PS is more than enough; too many cooks may spoil the soup.

I'd submit the version of the PS that YOU love.
