if you're unlucky enough to be unmatched 🙁 , pls. don't jinx it further by sharing the unfilled programs list. 😱 just a reminder from NRMP:

It is a material violation of this Agreement if any registered applicant or program shares the List of Unfilled Programs with any individual who is not registered for the Main Residency Match or allows an individual who is not registered for the Match to use the registrant's unique code number and password to access the secure web site to obtain information about unfilled positions.:scared:

hopefully this doesn't happen to you 😉 goodluck with the match :luck:

Why do you feel so strongly about this?

Besides it being an NRMP violation, I really don't see what the big deal is. People who matched wouldn't have any personal use for it besides curiosity, and everyone who didn't match can all access it at the same time.

It looks like you can share it with people who did match....it just says you cant share it with someone not registered, unless I missed something there.

I don't see who this possibly could hurt. I hope someone posts it as I believe was done last year. We're all dying for some information!!!!!

Maybe they are worried about students or doctors who didnt register with the NRMP or ERAS to contact unfilled programs for a position. Programs I imagine would be desperate to fill their unfilled spots and could care less if they went through the application process. They would pose competition to those who registered and did not match. They would also be people who could theoretically match into an unfilled program without ever paying all the stupid ERAS and NRMP fees. I imagine the latter would be their biggest concern.

Speaking as someone who decided to "withdraw" from the match (I registered with NRMP but turned in a blank list) for various factors (changed specialties, spouse's job issues, etc.), I agree with the OP. For people who don't match, but still followed all the "rules", ie, paying for ERAS, paying for interview travel, paying for NRMP registration, the only "advantage" they have in the scramble is getting first access/exclusive access to the unmatched positions list. By sharing this information publicly, such as on an internet messageboard, whatever small advantage the truly "unmatched" had is eroded, since this information allows people who didn't participate in the match to compete in the scramble. Even if I don't decide to scramble, I'm all for protecting the people who have gone through this process since September but didn't get the outcome they wanted.

I'm sure someone will be happy to share the unmatched program list once the scramble ends on Thursday, and I doubt that wait will hurt anyone.

There's a lot of people who don't participate in the match/register with NRMP for various reasons, but still try to match in the scramble. Sharing the list publicly would benefit these people and be unfair to the people who actually tried to match and didn't.

with lilycat.
Say Monday comes and you get the unpleasant e-mail. Your only solace may be the thought that along with the others who tried and didn't match, you'll have first dibs at the unfilled spots. That being said, let's hope that we don't receive that e-mail. Sigh, this will be a long weekend.

How do scramblers who were not registered with NRMP get the list then? I understand those who paid getting an advantage, but eventually these other people are going to need the list. When does it get posted publicly?

Lilycat - I too registered, paid fees, then withdrew for personal medical reasons last year. I was still not well enough to interview for positions this year, so I did not apply, but now I am fine and able to start in July if I wanted to. I am registering in September for next year so in my case, I dont' need "the list", but I am now wondering how I would have gotten it anyway.

If we match, can we still click on the unfilled programs link on the nrmp.org website? I would assume that we can. I do not think that link is only for people that did not match...it is for everyone that registered.

Doc Oc -- even if you didn't interview, you could still register for NRMP. If you really wanted to scramble, the $60 would probably be well-spent. You have to be registered for ERAS at the same time, but since many programs now ask for applications during the scramble to be submitted via ERAS, that's clearly in your best interest anyways.

Match information, including information about unfilled programs, seems to become public after match week has concluded. I'm sure if you were in contact with your school, you could get access to this information and then contact programs that are still unfilled, assuming the hypothetical situation that you did want to match.

Per the email sent out by the NRMP last week:
"To promote ethical behavior, fully matched applicants will NOT receive ANY information on unfilled programs by email or be able to access it on the NRMP web site."

So, to answer your question, no, you will not be able to see the unfilled programs list. I can think of two likely reasons behind it: 1) to prevent already matched applicants from trying to "cut a deal" with a program that they feel would be more desirable that went unfilled, and 2) to decrease the number of people who have access to the unfilled list to decrease the chance of it getting published or disseminated to non-registrants.

While I may not share the same enthusiasm Miracle does about sharing the list, in the past high site traffic has jammed the NRMP site, limiting access to those who did not match...

For those who don't match, if they are near their med school (even if they aren't a current senior), their school usually has books listing the unmatched programs, which are available to unmatched applicants, allowing them the option of not even needing to access NRMP for the initial list. The high site traffic probably can't be avoided since the list is dynamic -- wherever it is posted, that problem will exist.

I'm not saying I condone the practice of sharing the list, but last year I was personally interested to see which programs had spots open (as a future applicant). It caused some discussion in the medicine forum about why UTSW didn't fill, etc, and this does help provide future applicants a small bit of data...

This information still becomes available somewhere, and probably on this site, at some point. If you just want it for "personal interest" or "discussion purposes" does it matter if its available tomorrow or Friday or next week? Obviously, if you are impatient by nature, you want it tomorrow. People who matched still want to see it tomorrow because it may give them clues about where they might have matched. Naturally everyone is curious, no matter their position in relation to the match. I just personally don't feel it's fair to compromise the already precarious position of those scrambling by releasing the list publicly right away.

The great thing about people posting the list last year was that those of us who did match could get a better idea of where we might be going! If a program on your list didn't fill, it would be more likely you matched at that program or one of the programs you ranked above it on your list. Made me a little less nervous for the big day! Plus those of us now in residency would like to see if our programs filled!

That's my take on it as well. Too bad that all the programs I ranked got filled, so I am back on square #1 for tomorrow. 🙄 😛

HOLY CRAP - YOU DID AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA hilarious!

By now I'm sure just about all of the programs are full. The information is only for statistical purposes now.

I find it ironic that somebody would choose to post the list of unmatched spots in a thread titled "pls don't share..."

At least have the courtesy to start your own thread lol.

Wowzers! And that took some effort too, judging by the number of posts.

 :wow:

I can't find radiology unfilled list. Could you post it too? Thanks.

Perhaps because there were none? that's a scary thought.

The rads unfilled is on there. You have to look carefully to find it. There were 36 unfilled spots this match.

when will the unfilled programs list become public?

it already is on the NRMP website...it is organized by state ---> hospital/university ---> specific program
