Can anyone highlight upon why they chose the expensive (Penn) school when they had a cheaper school like Buffalo (that seems to offer very good education too) to go to? In other words, what makes penn worth the high tuition? Thanks

I was accepted to both and was highly considering Penn, but I just couldn't justify the extra 125K I'd be spending there. I knew both were excellent schools and I'm very content at UB. If you can get the Dean's award from Penn that might be different, but otherwise there's no way to look at it that suggests $3000/month for 30 years is an easy thing. Definitely visit both before you make a final decision though...always good to get a second look.

Thanks very much...anyone else??

sounds like your leaning towards penn?

I think YOU make Penn worth the extra money, meaning if you want to go there badly enough you'll justify the extra costs. I'm a firm believer that there are only two things to really consider when trying to choose dental schools: #1 cost and #2 location, with #1 weighing more heavily into your decision than #2. I've heard a lot of good things about Buffalo on SDN and would see no reason to choose Penn over UB unless you really want to live in Phily.

go to UB.. get ur own chair.. save a 100grand.. go skiing..

Specializing is a function on how well a student does in dental school not where he/she goes. Go to UB cheaper, own chair, relatively quiet part of the country with less traffic jams to deal with(avoid unnecessary stress).
