hi maxin,

first of all congrats for ur splendid job........in my opinion ucsf programm is good if u dont mind paying high fee
when compared to ucla .if u dont mind could u pls share ur scores.......

Hi maxin,
Making a decision between schools might be tough if you dont know what you want from a program.
All these schools have advantages and disadvantages you should first decide wat you really want from a program.Next thing talk to people who are doing programs in these schools or who have already done it.They have a better idea about the program. All these put together you should make a decision.
And ganesha dont just blankly comment on a school ......first tell what is the reason behind your comment.....unless and until you know it.

thanks

hi! maxin,
Congratulations.
To select school it also depends on where u from, means if u r nearby la then ucla is good, or if u are nearby bayarea then this 2 schools are convinient, (if it metters to you ). & all these 3 school have great programs, great patient pool, good facilites..etc so, in my opinion any school will be good for you.🙂

hi maxin,
congrats .hey i completely agree with bpl77 collect all the required data about the 3 schools & then decide.

hi!
thank u very much guys i think i have made up my mind , but want to make sure its the rite choice !
thank u guys,
max

Hi everyone,
I got accepted in to UCLA and UCSF and i couldnt decide between them. I want to know whether the college does matter when u go for masters or not. As i am pretty much confused in deciding between them. I will be very happy if any one can give me some ideas or suggestions regarding the decision between them.
Will be waiting for reply and have a nice day

Hi indiandentist,
I heared that if we do a ppid program in ucla chances for getting a postgrad is high. Is that really true????
I really dont have any idea how this postgrad works.
if u have come across any info please let us know.

thanks
sang

From what i have heard the difference between ucla and ucsf is that ucla does not have a seperate program for international dentists so when you finish at ucla you get the same degree as the other students in traditional dds but ucsf has a different program for international dentist so they get a differnt diploma

hey katia you must have missunderstanding, when i went for interview session in ucsf, they told us clerly in orientation that we are going to study with 3rd year student of ucsf dds program , there is no seperate program for international students. & we also get the same degree DDS. as other regular dds student will get.
hope this help.

Hey guys,

Just a word of advice! No one can really help you figure out what school to attend. You should really take into consideration what your circumstances are and ask someone who knows you personally and/or is in a current program.
Seriously, I am kind of surprised that some of you are taking this so lighthearted.
Look within yourself and answer that question.

by the way, are there ANY schools that still offer a separate degree than those for regular DDS?

Another thing...I think we should start a thread that says what school you are FINALLY going to. That will help both you guys get in touch, as well as offer the rest of us some insight as to what happened after all the testing/worrying/waiting.

Toodles for now!!!!😀

Henna,

that quote you have at the end of your posts, is it from Funny Girl? I could swear that's where it's from. Am I right? If not, let me know where u got it from. It sound SOOOOO familiar to me.

Maxin,

It just kinda seemed to me like the best help that you can get is from someone who knows you. Most people on here don't know you and can only offer so much. So, I guess you can ask around, but i sure hope that YOU made your decision at the end.

Plus, I think you already knew what your choice was...all your posts were on the same day. So go figure!

sara25,
if any one ask about any help to just know others opinion then its not a bad idea.its up to them, but i can tell u this advice helps a lot........ Anyway he is going to decide what he wants.......& if u feel that no one should ask about such kind of advice then i think there will be no post in this forum!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys I agree with ivshah.......it makes complete sense to ask for advice/help from others....but the final decision HAS to be YOURS AND YOURS ONLY!

I don't know about the rest of you but personally when I was in dental college here in India just speaking about my problems with my friends made most of not appear as problem and the others used to get solved there and then.

so lets all remember that we all have a common motto and that is to get into an IDP program and lets all stick together and move ahead and not pull each other down.....which incidentally is one of the main reason India is not wat it can/should be!

About the degree awarded.....all candidates are admitted through a separate program but, after the summer course, integrated into the 3rd year batch and awarded the same degree as the regular students

cheers!

Hmm.. I just got it somewhere from the internet, not sure where from.

Henna,

I just came to find out that zig ziglar is not the character from Funny girl..rather some guy who is kind of a seller/motivational speaker. So not the same character as I thought from the movie.
But I do like the quote though.

Hi Indiandentist,

It sure does matter where you graduate from if you are really interested in allpying to MS. I am sure you know which specialty you are interested in, apart from checking out detalis about IDP program, pt. pool, etc., you also need to find out how strong is the specialty program that you are interested in each school you got accepted and other details about the specialty program itself. That will be doing the ground work for getting in MS program.

If one has a stronger program than the other, you want to take that into consideration. I know getting into IDP program is hard, but getting in MS program is even more competitive as you are competing with the rest of the local applicants also. So, if you are really serious, do your home work now!

Hope this helps...
kpat.

Hey everybody!

Does anyone know how many seats are usually allotted for specialty programs? I'm sure it varies for each school...but I was wondering what the cutthroat competition is like for getting into those programs.:wow:

kinda depends on which specialty and which school you wanna get into....

Hi every one,
Thanx a lot to you all for ur valuable suggestions. i am still in the research about what to decide between UCLA and UCSF..
Have a nice day

Indian Dentist

instead of rolling up here and want others to help you decide which school to choose from (3) schools, help others &be more cooperative, have selfless dedication to your fellows and come on and right down your experience in the acceptance thread....😀

If a person could get into UCSF, UOP and UCLA he/she would be pretty smart to make the decision about where to join. obviously
the person might have done some ground work...

No offense please...

If I was in that stituation my preferences would be

1. Mobility (Is the place is an issue, is my spouse can
move with me, if you are a single no probs...)

2. College reputation/program
I am for sure you have appeared for orientation for all the three
places... If I am right (DDS_FIGHT has provided very precise
and consolidated comparison very high level)

UOP it is very specialized and established program and
emphasis is on professionalism, they want you to make
very successful to practice. The class and curriculum is
very different. If you want to go for higher studies, you
got to think again for UOP. Very good patient pool.

UCSF is very highly reputed, ofcource state funded, research
oriented program is new and I believe they make you to share
class with third year (if not curriculum is almost same as
regular DDS third year onwards). Moderate patient pool.

UCLA is also very highly reputed school, the program is
very similar to UCSF (Once again I could be wrong).
But I heard patient pool is very poor due to its locality.

3. Your objectives
(want to pracise or go for higher studies)
No body gaurantees a PG cource or specialization in the same
college where you studied

Hope the pyramid education system is clear to all of us.
The number seats for higher stage is significantly lower than
the previous stage, they say you got to be in the top three to
five percentage to go to highly reputed special cources.

And the schools always tries to maintain good pool of students
from different places, even though school might give some
preference for the same school, but they try not to show
that for obvious reasons....

4. Money aspect, I differ my openion with most of the people
on this board
They say UCSF is lower than UOP and UCLA is lower than
UCSF blah blah blah ...

I don't think it does matter a lot unless you are lucky and
got into LomaLinda. The worst case would be NYU not
for the fees but the time (three years).

The fees is at the maximum differs by 10 to 15K for the whole
cource, if you are ready to spend 120K for two years, 10 to 15K
is still 10%, This amount could be minor factor when you are
taking a loan...

The way I take it as this is important but very minor factor to
make my decision.

Well! anyway my two cents for whom so ever looking for a openion...

And for the other curious people I don't want to waste few more messages for queries...

Yes! I got into USC, BU and waitlisted on UCSF.

My choice is obvious 😍

My Scores are
Part I 94
Part 2 87
GPA 3.09

Ok! please no queries on interview dates, who interviewed me etc... Does it really matter 😕

One more thing there are total 32 candidates posted their acceptances or some kind of confirmations on this site,
which is only 10% of the whole number of seats available for
IDP/IDS/ASID etc....

One cannot make anything useful out of the very limited information...

cheers

Bullmarket, is great that you are so well informed and have done your homework very good. Lucky you! Congrats!
You do have to understand that there are some people who have no other means of finding information other than SDN, this network has a become a blessing for many of us who know absolutly no one else in this path when we began. In fact, The only people I know doing this with me are here on SDN.

Did it matter that I knew before hand (from SDN) how my interview was going to be like? Yes. Did it help me? Yes. How? I was less nervous, I kind of had an idea, 'cause it was my first interview and I didn't want to mess it up. Whether I get in or not, I know that my interview was very good and SDN played a big role in it, and that if I don't get in is no other than my own damn scores fault. How did SDN played a role in it? Because members were willing to lend a typing hand and share their previous interview experiences with me, some private some public, but they did.

For being SDN only a small % of the IDP candidates population, I'm sure it has become very representative, or how do you think Gallup polls works? and Nielsen TV ratings? Are they useful? well, don't ask Al Gore....., but you could ask Schwarzenegger.

Again, I really congratulate you for beign so well informed and auto-suficient, keep it up! but remember any single piece of information some of us got, got it from making something useful out of the very limited information.

Hello!

I sure missed alot over the couple of days. I agree with several points that bullmarket made, as well as several that Meggs mentioned. But overall, I think that it's nice to ask for help if you don't know who to turn to, but to still not know what to do after weeks of receiving your acceptance letters, that's a little farfetched.
I would imagine that from the moment you apply, you have an idea of which school is at the top of your list and which ones rank lower. Isn't that correct? So why so unsure of your decision?
I think that it's good for people to be able to voice their opinions and not get criticized. I am glad to see that there are several people that are helpful and others that always bring some "spice" to the threads.
I guess all I am trying to say is that I really enjoyed reading the posts. It was very amusing.

so sometimes I feel like..... +pissed+
and sometimes I feel like....
I just 😍 this site

Well! my intention is not to offend anyone, but I would prefer people give some meaningful messages...

I don't like to see messages like

"Mr.XYZ please look into your PM" I think people always looks
into their email before lookinginto student doctornetwork.

And there are tons of "Congratulations messages"... won't
help much in the group communication... I am very happy
for all the people made it to the schools but does not have to
convey each and every individual with group message...

again no offense please... Democracy always rules no doubt about it...

Yesterday I wrote a message but seems not posted due to
some error with stupid internet connection...

anyway my chocie for now is USC... I wish I could get to UCSF
but I am still waitlisted...

Henna! you did not get my point
I want to say UCSF fees could be little less than UOP or the other
way around, but there are so many other factors to worry about
before to think about fees.

Once again in my openion fees factor is very important but not
very high on my list.

follow my next message I would like to give consolidated list of
people who are all conveyed their acceptance... Hope this helps
some people...

I would suggest or request people to make this site as more
useful by providing consise and complete information...

I know for sure there are more passive readers than people
who contributed with their info....

😛

wanted to add my info to the current list

Admitted UOP and Tufts. WL in UCSF
Cancelled in Tufts and have decided to go to UOP. (Staying in bay area, so UOP is naturally more attractive. Before the applcation process, UOP was my number 1 choice anyways, so glad it worked for me.

Thanks bullmarket for consolidating all the acceptances in one post.

PM stands for Personal Message, which is NOT email. Email and PM are two totally different things. And yes, "check your PM" messages are kind of stupid (unless you're trying to get the person attention's).

HOW is it that you manage, bieng a newbie and in your very firsts posts, to introduce criticism in everysingle one of them????

Some of the people who get congratulated here have been around for a while provinding and receiving advice, so they very well deserve a happy note.

I understand your point, a lot of messages sometimes polute a thread, but that's why we have started acceptances and scores and admissons threads, to keep all the info clean in one place. Still sometimes this get poluted as well, but not as much.

What's going to be your next negative remark in your next post? the type of font we use???

By the way, Thanks for the list you put together. But "I don't like to see" posts in ALL CAPS, that doesn't help much my vision.

hey!
good work bullmarket.

since i have no one here so i didn't have any proble regarding where to stay ! and my dad always used to say for health and education never think about money!so i was consfused as hell!
but i guess i have made up my mind. anyways , the best way to do the homework is keep reading SDN!sharing ur view asking for guidance !

SDN rocks!!! Henna and Meggs u too!

Hey,
yes as Maxin said.....SDN rocks....it does give valuable info....I got to realise that many people are in the same boat as me....trying to achieve their goals.....SDN is also a place where many international dentists are given a chance to exchange their ideas and views....

Claps to Henna......She is a real sweet moderator....giving people the freedom to express their opinions and ideas....

Meggs who is always trying to help people by answering their questions.....Meggs...ur avatar suits u.....full of enthusiasm....🙂...

cheers

ooops.....another "Congratulations message"... won't
help much in the group communication!! 🙄

I am a very junior member to this board, but I have been
watching this board for a while. I have been on so many
other boards....

There is some what frustration behind my critisism, when
I see a new message on the acceptance thread (the very first
message says please only post the new acceptances), I accept
a new more acceptance, and I am always disappointed, it is some
other message...

Constructive critisism is good... is it not... Thats where whole
civilization evolved...

For some reason I love statastics (don't ask me why) then I
counted what are the total number of candidates had put out
their acceptances it took me lots of time to go around and search
for each and every results thread...

I shared my frustration with some of my friends they also felt the
same so I decided to write it on a message...

I hope I maintained very clearly, that I only said "I don't like", but
did not ask people to follow. There are tons of things I don't
like but I see them happening every day, I can't stop.
Ex: bay area traffic, the current run in the stock market, housing prices... 😀

If you see some thing meaningful in my openion please try to
follow at your wish!...

take it easy guys/girls ("dil pe mat le yar!...") 😉

Infact if there is way one can figure out "what is the percentage
of people would cancel their accptances due to multiple
acceptances, then we can come out with the chances of getting
wait list cleared"

But a sample of 32 too low to make any conclusions...

So I request all the other passive readers would also add their
information with their acceptances...

Anyway I don't want pollute this thread further....

Mr/Mrs Meggs already made his decision, let him enjoy his time
before school starts...

Hope the ambiguity in the waitlists gets cleared soon, and they
can also join to share our joy...

pl! don't mad at me 😡 , I am not that bad...

Hey Sam, do you think I should go to law school if this doesn't work out?

Miss Meggs hasn't made her decision and is certanly not enjoying her time before school starts, because of one simple reason, that you obvioulsy haven't pick up in your lurking period: she's admitted to 0 schools.

Ok, I'll try not to be mad at you, but just to let you know..... you SUCK at firts impressions!!!! Hopefully you're married and don't need to go dating anymore.

Now, moving on........ thanks for your constructive criticism, I agree with you on many of them and hopefully people will take them seriously. Thanks.
