MSU may not have a central hospital but it is feet away from Medical Mile in Grand Rapids which will provide ample opportunity for you as a student. Additionally it is right next to Van Angle Institue which is also a huge research bonus.

Hi all, I have been fortunate to be accepted into two medical schools but am having trouble deciding an IS DO school and an OOS MD school. For context I am a 26M, nontraditional student, non-HPSP, in the Arizona area with no kids or significant other (*sigh*). I am interested in internal medicine, anesthesiology, and radiology.
Tuition and expenses is slightly higher for Midwestern but I am VERY fortunate to have a scholarship for the first year ($85k x 4 - $35k = $305) and I do not have to pay for housing since I will live with my family. Tuition for MSU CHM would be lower even though I am OOS but I have to factor in living expenses ($62k x 4 = $248k + living expenses).
Midwestern University College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM)
Pros
- Decent COMLEX board pass rates compared to national.
- Diverse match results and strong match percent (>98% 2022-2024).
- I know great alumni that have graduated from AZCOM including my PCP.
Cons
- The extra DO stuff: Take USMLE separately, OMM (which I've heard is not very good).
- Traditional lectures with traditional grading system, GPA, class rank.
- Far from support network including friends and family.
Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (MSU CHM)
Pros
- P/F systems based curriculum (I've seen controversial threads about this).
- Good research opportunities especially at Grand Rapids campus.
- established reputation with residency sites with >97% match rate.
Cons

- Below average USLME board pass scores (1-3% in last 3 years).
- Very far from support network both personal and professional.
- No central hospital (idk how much this matters).
The board scores issue is vastly overblown. The data you are seeing is from no current CHM students; those are classes that have graduated. Their curriculums were way too lose and some students did not know how to study due to that. No exams at all besides the NBME exams, they got twice a semester, and there is no incentive to do well. This has vastly changed since then, and current students are doing really well. The curricukum is great because it is NBME focused. The exams they give you will literally track your progress very nicely for when you take step 1. It is a super free curriculum. You will have time to board prep day 1. You also get research travel funding. People do ot realize how good it is with a pass/fail curriculum at CHM; students have to try hard to actually fail. It is a great place to be if you have tunnel vision and want to go for your niche specialty from the start, if you play your cards right. Good luck!

I would do who you live with, The board issue isnt overblown, the two schools are combining because of this issue, and you will experience growing pains. They leaked students data recently I have heard.
The schools are not combining and the proposal was not due to a specific issue. It was to put the two programs under the college of medicine. Similarly, the PA school and nursing school would also fall under the college of medicine. Although, this proposal will be in question with leadership changes throughout the university. Correct. The grand rapids campus is attached to butterwoth hospital which is where many home prorgrams exist in. In fact, the programs host grand rounds within the college of human medicine building.MSU may not have a central hospital but it is feet away from Medical Mile in Grand Rapids which will provide ample opportunity for you as a student.
