Hi,

How's the interview process going so far?

I just registered on this board today. I sure wish I knew about it when I was interviewing.

Anyway, I'm a 3rd year resident at the Rush program in Chicago. We're currently reviewing applications.

If anybody is considering interviewing there and would like any information about the program/interview/what to expect or Chicago in general, let me know.

Good luck these next five months. 👍

Hi,

I just sent you a PM, but basically...

I'm really interested in PM&R. I'm currently an M2 in the MD program at Eastern Virginia Medical School. What are some of the things that you could reccommend someone at my level to do to maximize their chances of obtaining a chicago residency after graduation?

Also, I'm interested in possibly pursuing a Howard Hughes year long research fellowship after I finish my M2. Could you recommend me anyone working on PM&R related issues in chicago that I could speak to about the possibility of doing research under them?

Thanks!

Hey everybody,

I wrote an informational post on the program in the "2005 interview trail thread".

Please go there if you have any questions.

Feel free to PM me if you need anything clarified or have additional questions.

I think as a second year, you can start networking with physiatrists in the area - look for potential mentors, and research opportunities. I know there is an NIH fellowship available for PM&R residents - not sure about med students. There's always physiatrists looking for help with research. I would start looking into programs now - start figuring out which programs you might be interested in doing your residency at, then pick one or two which you would consider a "reach" program. Contact ppl there for opportunities. I know RIC has a summer externship. Many programs will allow you to do something similar. There's a 3rd yr at my med school who did some research at Spaulding. I think as a whole, you have to be proactive - no one will bite. Just email program directors or browse through PM&R journals at your library and find a topic you are interested in. Contact the authors of those articles.

Good luck!

BTW - the quote at the bottom should be "ganbatte kudasai" 🙂
