Anyone that has gone through Prelim Surgery and then on to PM&R residency ... Did your PM&R program ask you to take the ABSITE? Is it of any value to me if I have my PM&R residency secured and have no future in surgery after my prelim year?

I was a categorical surgery resident and then switched. I did pretty well on the absite and nobody really seemed to care, nor did they ask even when I applied to fellowship.

I just completed general surgery prelim year for PM&R and, while I did take the ABSITE, my PM&R program did not request that I did -- they probably didn't even know about it! I saw you SOAP'd -- you should probably ask the PM&R program you will be going to...?

Thanks for the reply, I asked both of my programs (PGY1 Surgery and PGY2+ PM&R), both said it probably will not matter in the grand scheme of things. Thanks for the response, was just wondering what other people were experiencing as part of their prelim training, since the categoricals in my program seem to be making a big fuss of the ABSITE.

My prelim surgery program treated me just like all the categorical interns, so that's why I had to do absite, but it really didn't have any impact on my standing with PM&R. I think my program needed my score for accreditation or compliance. If you don't have to take it, just be grateful for one fewer thing you gotta do
