i wanted to know what you can actually do as a resident (say a PGY2) while moonlighting?

i understand that some programs do not allow residents to moonlight as that time spent moonlighting counts towards the 80 hr work week, even though the residents may only be putting in 50-60 hrs of PMNR work a week.

what can you do as a PMNR resident moonlighting? also, let's say that i do a internal medicine preliminary year, does this open up other doors to moonlighting? i guess you can do regular medicine moonlighting too, right?

while i will not pick a program based solely on whether they allow moonlighting, if i have to chose between two programs and given that i have ton a loans, it will factor into my decision.

thanks.

Our program restricts moonlighting, but....

There are lots of opportunities for moonlighting in general. Many freestanding rehab facilities cannot fill all of their overnight call spots with residents, so they use moonlighters to fill their call schedule. So it would be the same as being on call at a rehab facility

I think (but am not sure) that some rehab residents may also take ER shifts. And I think there are some things that need token physician representation (like radiology suites that need a physician around during the administration of contrast for a CT-scan) where PM+R people moonlight.
